How to connect Yamaha MOX6 to Magix Music Maker?

Hi all,

I just bought a brand new Yamaha MOX6. Althought it comes with Cubase, I heard from my friend that Magix Music Maker is much more user-friendly and easy to operate. But the problem now is I don't know how to make it work with the Yamaha MOX6 Synthesizer workstation.

I have installed the steinberg USB and asio4all driver. From the Magix music maker program settings, I can see the Yamaha MOX6 as input/output, I have also configured it to use the asio4all v2.

But no matter what I can't get the sounds to come out from my laptop. As I do not have an external speaker or headphones I do not have the ability to play sounds out from the keyboard itself and the synthesizer does not have a on-board speaker. The only way I can play sounds is through the laptop since what I bought is a synthesizer workstation.

This is the first Synthesizer/keyboard I have bought, the Yamaha MOX6. I have zero experience in all this electronic and hardware stuff since I only play the acoustic piano until now I am keen on trying out music composing using all this high tech stuff as the piano itself is very limited to what I can create.

You did not mention which version of Music Maker you got? any way may be this tutorial help you.

I use the Music Maker 17. I tried to go through the steps in the PDF file you linked. I managed to set up the configurations accordingly but there is still no sound coming from the laptop. I ran the VITA software synthesizer and audio record. It does detect the keystrokes input from the Yamaha MOX6 but there is no sound at all.

What I want to do is to use the voices from the Yamaha MOX6 (There are over thousands of different voices) play and record it into the Music Maker and finally into different sequences/loops for each different instruments and voices composing it into a piece of music.

I went to control panel and confirm that the Yamaha MOX6 is enabled at the Playback and Recording tab. I am using windows 7 64bits.

As you've discovered...this ain't no piano! If you're trying to record the voices from the MOX6, you don't need to mess with Vita. Vita is for MIDI recording. If you want to use Vita as a MIDI sequencer to drive your MOX6, that's something different. Or you can use the Yamaha as a MIDI controller and play VST (software) instruments. Besides, the Yamaha has an onboard sequencer and they've given you Cubase as well.

Your Yamaha is capable of transmitting four channels of audio and 128 channels of MIDI over the USB connection. But it is a DAW (digital audio workstation) and is designed to work with a DAW software program. MAGIX Music Maker is NOT a DAW.

But, that doesn't mean you can't use it with MMM-17 at all, however you may be limited in what you can do. MMM can only record one (stereo) channel of audio and (I assume) only 16 channels of MIDI.

I suggest you read, and re-read your manual starting at page 50. Since we (I) don't own a Yamaha MOX6, there's only so much we are going to be able to do.
