Hosting with an external domain

Pixelpilot wrote on 6/10/2014, 1:15 AM

Hi folks, a couple of questions about hosting, I have an existing domain which I would like top keep ( We have already paid for 2 years) and a website which I would like to host with magix. Can I.....

1) Point my domain to a magix site, or does magix have to take control of the domain?

2) I have a .com.au site is this something magix allows - I did not see any reference to it in the documentation I could find.

Hi

 . . . Point my domain to a magix site, or does magix have to take control of the domain?. . . . I have a .com.au site . . . .

You need to contact your domain name supplier or if you have one login to your domain control panel and see if the domain name forwarding / redirection option is available or you can change where the domain name points to.

Hi,

To add to John's comment, are you trying to foreward your domain to another one, or just trying to link your domain to a different one.  Forewarding a domain is a function of your hosting provider (I do not beleive that the Magix "free" accounts allow this (not sure about the paid hosting accounts as I do not use them).  Within the Xara product, you can link a page or a click box to another domain with no problem whatsoever.

You need to contact your domain....... domain name points to.

I am currently with MelbourneIT who holds the domain, and the nameservers it points to are my current webhosts. What I want to know is can I keep my current domain holder MelbourneIT and use Xara as the nameserver - I'm happy to pay - I ust want to know if it can be done, and whether a .com.au site is ok

I have been looking at the Magix hosting M package which includes 1 domain.
