HDR not supported in Movie studio 2025?

Serge-2024 wrote on 10/7/2024, 5:37 AM

I've just bought Movie studio 2025, I upgraded from Corel videostudio 2023. That couldn't open the video files from my samsung 23+, recorded in hevc 265 with hdr.

So now I can open the video files recorded from my samsung 23+ but they all look washed out.

I must be doing something wrong, but what? :

Original (on hdr screen its not so over bright/saturated, but creating the screenshot with the standard windows 11 snipping tool does something strange)

After importing into Moviestudio 2025

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct settings within Movie studio 2025?

Hi

. . . video files recorded from my samsung 23+ but they all look washed out . . . hevc 265 with hdr . . .

Has the pale video from the phone looks like it has been recorded in a Cine-D, Log or colour profile format.

If so, then Samsung should supply a colour correction LUT (Look Up Table) which should be placed in a new sub folder of

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Studio version Content\VideoEffects

the folder should be named called LUTPresets and within that folder create a folder called LUTCamera, inside thid folder create another call Samsung s3

To use the LUT drag and drop it on to the video, the LUT will be found in Templates tab, Movie Looks, Samsung S3

This is what I get with my Osmo Action 4 HEVC, HDR Cine-D format.

Hello Serge,

Have you activated the lightning bolt (blue)? If so, deactivate it.

Best wishes,

Considering that I have the Moviestudio 2025 plus version instead of platinum. I don't have a LUTpresets folder.

So probably my application version cannot use those.

So that means that the rec2020 (equals HDR content?) and should be downconverted to 709 (standard HD content?)

Bit strange that a videoediting tool from 2024 doesn't support HDR material? Or is this conclusion incorrect?

(Im an IT guy, but not a video editing guru ;)

I know nothing of LUTs and all the other dark arts bits and pieces within MS but I think John means you have to create the various folders at the address he's shown.

I may be wrong but ...

@me_again is correct, you have to create the folders yourself as I described, MMS 2025 does not have a separate LUT category unlike it more pro version Video Pro X.

Hello John,

I created the folders as suggested, downloaded a few *.cube files. But couldn't find them in the GUI where you said they should be. Maybe the *.cube files where not compatible with Video deluxe 2024?

Anyhow I found the solution for my problem, sometimes it can be as simple as knowing which button to push...

The auto lumination button did the trick. (Not sure if I translated that correctly)

Im very happy with this! Hopefully this will also help someone in the future.

@Serge-2024

Hi

Pleased to hear you have a solution - 'Auto belichting' - 'Auto lumination' is close, in the English version of MMS the button is labelled 'Auto Exposure'.

. . . . downloaded a few *.cube files . . . .

Cube files come in 2 different formats, 1D and 3D, if you downloaded 1D cubes they will not work. There is a very good explanation of these here.
