Having trouble burning a Blu-ray Disc in Photostory 2016.

westdt wrote on 12/11/2016, 12:51 AM

Hi

I have a Photostory Deluxe 2016 running on a new Dell  XPS laptop on Win 10.  It has 300GB  available.  Am using an external Pioneer Blu-ray burner.  Have recently updated to PS 2016 and have made 2 Photostory projects:-

Project 1 - is about 1 hour long and I have readily been able to burn  the slideshow to a Blu-ray disc and also export it as a MP4. All items  in the slideshow are either jpg or mp4's.

Project 2 - is about 30 mins log and I get consistent errors stating it can't encode it.  Will not export either to any format.  Exporting gives an error message of 'An error has occurred during export with an external video codec. Please check export settings (resolution/framerate etc) and make changes if necessary. If problems persist it is recommended to restore default settings'.  Tried to restore to default settngs but this did not fix the issue.   The only thing I did differently with Project 2 is I originally added it as a new slideshow within project 1. However when it would not burn, I separated it out thinking that might be the issue - no luck with this however. All items in the slideshow are jpeg or mp4's

Log of the last few attempst to burn Project 2 is below  - would greatly appreciate any assistance.  I am still able to burn Project 1 with no issues - am using 2 types of Blu-ray discs - Verbatim and a cheaper brand called Plexdisc.   I have tried a number of different discs when burn attemps have failed.

Hi

From the error log:

  1. . . . . C:\Users\raven\OneDrive\Documents\MAGIX\Photostory . . . .

This path would indicate that you are using Microsoft OneDrive, ie the cloud, to store your files etc and work from there - is this correct?

If so you cannot do this, Photostory expects the files to be stored locally - by default in the folder C:\Users\raven\Documents\MAGIX\Photostory Deluxe\

  2. . . . . DBK error in CBurnDevSupport::InvalidateDiscInfo(): 16 - burn support - invalid device . . . .

Try updating the Burn routines to the latest available here

  3. . . . . Am using an external Pioneer Blu-ray burner . . . .

Always ensure that your laptop is running on its powerpack/charger when you want to burn to disc, running on battery will flatten it very quickly and possibly shut down the laptop mid burn giving you a coaster.

In Windows Control panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options, Change plan settings, Change advanced power settings disable power management on the USB ports for when 'plugged in' as shown below.

This prevents Windows power management shutting down the USB port and drive when there is no activity on that USB port, eg while rendering is occurring, and the subsequent delay while the port and drive power up again which can cause 'device not available' errors.

Hi John, Thanks very much for your recommendations - I really appreciate it.

I am actually storing my Magix files on a separate hard drive attached to my laptop and am using it with power.  Have now downloaded the Burn Routines update - thanks for the link (other links in past forum comments I had looked at did not jump to a correct page).  As it happens, I have

been able to burn a disc of slide-show 2 yesterday.  I attempted one of the suggestions mentioned elsewhere in this forum to try ImgBurn - that did not work either but it did burn a disc up to a particular point in the slideshow where I had inserted a 6 photo 'picture in picture'. Figured there may possibly be a glitch there so I removed the picture in picture  - tried to burn a disc and it worked perfectly.  Have also been able to export to MP4.

Cheers
