Freezes upon loading

I'm an extremely 'lite' video editor. I don't require much. I simply want to join clips into a movie, add a menu that allows jumping into specific places within the movie and burn the movie to a DVD. That's all. I don't require a lot of bells and whistles. Having said that I'm using Windows 10 (currently updated) and Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus. I only saw Movie Edit Now as an option. I hope I'm in the right place. And I also hope you can still help me with this issue.

I launch the app. I get the 'What do you want to do' pop up window. I click 'cancel'. I then click on the 'X' in the upper right corner of the window (to close it). It just sits there. It does not close the app. Tried alt-F4 and it still doesn't close the app. I have to launch Task Manager and terminate the task to get it to end.

Also, is there a way to view existing projects? Is there a way to delete projects (with and without deleting the associate dfiles)?

Movie Edit Pro is now called Movie Studio so I have moved your post to the appropriate product area.

MEP 2013 is now a very old product so may not run properly under any recent version of Win 10.

However, I am confused by your post! I assume you are able to open the app? Are you able to use it to edit your video(s)? Why do you choose to close or cancel the "What do you want to do" window? Is the problem simply that the app does not close down quickly? If so, how long have you waited before using Task Manager? It is quite possible that MEP is writing to and saving certain configuration files, which it needs to do before the app can be fully closed. (This is a known feature of some Magix programs.)

Please tell us, step by step, exactly what you do when this problem occurs! Then we may well be able to suggest how to avoid it.

As for earlier projects, yes these can be easily re-opened in MEP. Simply choose File>Open and navigate to the specific .mvp file and select it. Assuming ALL the video and/or audio files in the project are still where they were when you last saved the project, everything should load as normal.

And yes, you can delete projects (a project file contains NO actual video or audio files, simply a link to where they are stored on your computer and full instructions to the program on how it should "use" them). Whether you choose to delete project and/or source files is entirely up to you but, to state the obvious (I hope) doing so will mean that you cannot return to that project at any time in the future, especially if you also choose to delete the source files.

Hi.

Are you talking about using Magix Movie Edit Now? If so you did post under the correct topic heading but it is unlikely you will find anyone here that uses it as it is only available to download off of the Microsoft apps website and I'm not ware of any users here including myself that uses it.

It is possible that if a program does not have access to all the program's requirements of the operating system that it will not behave correctly and could be one source of the program not responding as it should.

Did you make sure you read and applied all the relevant permissions to the program in Windows as requested on the Windows App store web page?

First the mention of it being an App and then the pop-up 'What do you want to do' which I have never seen MEP produce. Why mention Movie Edit Now which is only available in the Microsoft store if this is not related to the topic being posted originally in the Movie Edit Now section?

I think the OP thought that Movie Edit Now was his only option to choose since Movie Edit Pro is no longer listed.

Thank you. I solved this problem using a different approach. I uninstalled the product and re-installed it from the original discs.

Oh, by the way, I don't think I'm going to help much around the confusion. The program launches and claims to be Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus. I know it's an older version but like I said I don't need bells and whistles. I have VERY simple requirements. So, is this implying that support for THIS particular program has been sunsetted?

I've also made a note to myself to submit future questions to the Movie Studio forum, not Movie Edit Pro.

Hi.

This was a build for Windows XP up to Windows 8. Now you are running Windows 10 there may well be problems. Support for an old version pretty much ends with the Windows versions it was meant to work on. Technically you only get official Magix support until the next version comes out or within a year of your purchase if you bought the product close to the release of a new version. Do you have both the 32 and 64 bit versions?

Have you tried right clicking on the icon and run it in compatibility mode?

You may need a copy of Direct X 9 as well that can be downloaded from here as the program may need it to run correctly.

Movie Studio is just the new name (rebranding) of Movie Edit Pro which changed in 2022.

Is this similar to the 'What do you want to do' pop up window?

The above image is from MEP 2016 which is the closest I have installed to 2013

If so this is the Project setting screen for the type of project you want to create, if you close this, the program will remain open until you close it you may have an empty timeline waiting for you to add video clips, images etc or the normal interface with no timeline as shown below

If this is what you are getting then you must specify the project type or just OK the Project settings dialog to accept the default settings.

From your previous posts, going as far back as 2022, it looks like the program was functioning correctly.

What has changed on your computer, eg: Windows upgraded to a newer version, new Antivirus program etc?

As a first step try restarting the computer ie Windows icon, Power option, Restart -- not just a a Shutdown/Startup.

Hi.

Sometimes just using the programs 'reset program settings to defaults' under the Settings section can achieve the same thing.
