Fonts not displaying; can't use certain style fonts

johny_lovin_it wrote on 8/18/2019, 11:29 PM

I'm trying to do a youtube channel and I want to use a style font I like or many others but Magix movie edit pro just doesn't accept it. It accepts some but not all. I have this font '8-Bit Wonder' cuz' I want to do retro gaming. It shows when I highlight it and type but after I click the check mark, it shows just Aria font. I don't know what to do. Can you please help?

Hi

It works fine with the Basic fonts.

Which font are you starting with and then changing to 8 bit Wonder?

Are you clicking the tick top right of the title box in the preview monitor to confirm the changes - clicking off the title on the timeline or elsewhere does not confirm the change?

I'm clicking on the check mark to confirm the font I want but it just doesn't show it after I do that. It's just the basic font on the first picture.

And I don't remember what font I started but does it matter?

Hi

. . . . I don't remember what font I started but does it matter? . . . .

It would help knowing what you did start from, to try and replicate the issue, so the category and title name are necessary - otherwise we are just guessing.

. . . . It's just the basic font on the first picture. . . . .

Each font belongs to a named category and the icons have the name of the title effect on them as shown below

I didn't go to the templates. I just clicked on the title editor button beneath the preview screen and w/e it showed on it, I usually click on it to type w/e and on the right, where it says title editing, I click on the 'font' and select what I want which is 8-bit wonder and yeah, it doesn't display after I click on the check mark. I don't know what font it started with so I'm guessing 'Arial' but its not coming from the template like you're showing me.

I looked in the templates and 8-bit wonder is not listed. But why does that matter if I have the font on the title editor? I don't understand this cryptic function. I just wanna' use w/e font I download online onto the movie edit thing and this is just pissing me off that I have to go through all this struggle.

Anyway, what do you suggest? I was going to call magix but now I have to pay a voucher and I'm more mad that I have to pay to call for help.

Hi

Using your method also works correctly - see clip below.

I am using the 8 Bit Wonder font from here. I suspect you may have a bitmap version of the font ie not a TrueType (TTF) font.

I also tested the 8 bit wonder font. Did the same as John plus added another font just to be sure. The 8-bit wonder font reverted to some other font after pressing the tick (the word 8-bit on the picture) while the other test font was correctly displayed.

Do you have any other fonts, that you have downloaded, displaying the same problem?

The only commonality in this is that you both have older NVidia graphics cards - I would suggest raising a support ticket about this issue and link to this topic.

weird that all my other downloaded TTF does not exhibit this behaviour.

i suspect the font itself. Another 8-bit font I downloaded shows the non-blocky font set when i view it. Some parts were blocky while some parts note.

Hi

Same here, tried 3 different fonts I downloaded and 8 BIT Wonder was the only one that did not display correctly.

However this does not explain why the font works for me in MEP. I think we can rule out Windows version as we are on the same version Windows 10 1903.

@johny_lovin_it

What version number of MEP are you using?

Why it worked for you and not for me? Only thing I can think of is the code-pages that somewhat depends on locale. But I changed my system to US locale and tried, still the same issue. So I am at a lost as well other than your MEP probably more updated than mine (mine stopped updating since last year after that no-sound fiesta... lucky me).

Anyway, if you look at the 8-bit wonder font's information via one of the many online TTF font tester available, you can see that it has very small number of glyphs and other font "stuffs" compared to others fonts that "worked". So it is just that particular font unfortunately. But then, that font does work in MS Word, so it may pretty well be an issue with older version of MEP... IDK.

The version number is under Help, About - 2019 was superceded by the release of 2020 in the last week, this is why it is helpful to have the version number.

OK, I know I'm late to the party but since I found what I think may be a solution to this I'll just leave it here for future users.

After reading this I was about to uninstall the font that was not working for me (IllusionJETM, which btw was a .ttf) and do a cleanup in the fontcache and registry (if maybe something got stuck there and a regular reinstall was not working), when I noticed the installation path. It was installed in:

%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts

which got me thinking that it was not installed system wide and only for the current user. So I search some more about installing fonts system wide and found this:

How to Install Fonts in Windows 10

After following that it installed to:

%WINDIR%\Fonts

and when I reopened Movie Edit my font displayed correctly all the time.

With this info on hand I think it's safe to say that Movie Edit needs a system wide installed font to work properly all the time. Hope this helps sort out this problem for everybody else.
