"File not found", even after re-selection

Photo_G wrote on 3/22/2022, 1:39 PM

I have a project where I have added an mxcOGG file that prompts me with "File not found" each time I open it. The file is definitely there in the ShopManager directory, and I can easily select it again, but I noticed that the file name appears to be truncated on the "Load file associated with movie..." dialog (see below). Has anyone seen this behavior before and maybe have a workaround?

I also saw this post from @AAProds that was super helpful, but the project still pops up the message after re-selecting the audio.

Thanks in advance!

@Photo_G

I have seen this message rather TOO regularly in VPX 13 when attempting to use certain ones of the supplied DVD Menus, prior to disc burning. Is that what you are wanting to do?

I have yet to find an answer to why or how to avoid this! As a "workaround" I use the utility "Search Everything" to navigate to the folder where the audio track is stored but, despite then resaving the project, on subsequent re-opening I have to repeat the "search and find"!

@emmrecs Thanks! I'm not burning the project to DVD, just trying to get the mxcOGG file reference to save along with the project so I don't necessarily have to do this each time. The one I'm working on is a pretty basic project, but it seems like it could get to be a real pain (and prone to error) on a larger project.

Hi

I cannot replicate this - the file loads every time.

What you are seeing suggests that the project file is corrupt.

Try loading backup copies using File, Load backup project - there may be up to 10 backups however though they are numbered 0 - 9 this is not necessarily the true order as the backups are recycled when the 9th has been created load - each one working backwards in time created to see if a good backup will load.

@johnebaker Thanks for the feedback! I was able to get it to load without errors from a backup, but I also paid closer attention to my workflow and it appears to happen more frequently if I launch directly from the project file on disk. It seems to occur much less often if I launch VPX first, then select the project from the "Load existing project" page, which makes me think that the project file is ok (unless it creates a new one each time it's opened).

I also see that there is an option to "Copy media to project folder" when starting a new project, but it doesn't seem to be an option afterward...at least not from the File >> Settings >> Movie dialog. The next time a create a new project, I'll try selecting this option to see if it helps. Thanks again!

Hi

. . . . It seems to occur much less often if I launch VPX first, then select the project from the "Load existing project" page, which makes me think that the project file is ok  . . . .

That would suggest their is a timing issue when using double click project file to launch the program.

Personally I rarely use the double click of any file to launch any program.

. . . . Copy media to project folder when starting a new project, but it doesn't seem to be an option afterward. . . .

There are certain settings for projects which only work when there is nothing on the timeline or you are starting a new project. As soon as an object is added to the timeline these settings are 'locked in' for that project.

Hi.

If you export a project backup to a new location / folder, you get the option to to copy the media into the new project again, even if the media doesn't exist in the current project.

This has happened to me a few times.. When loading a project it pops up saying "File not found".. This is despite the file being in the place it should be. A workaround is simply to copy the file in question to another folder location and then use the folder optin in the dialogue to browse to it. Then it loads it fine..

Once you have saved the file, you can of course delete the files from the moved to location and then reload the file into magix. When it complains again, simply use the folder option to browse to the original location!
