Hi

. . . . ERROR: PrepareDVDVideoFiles() failed with errNo 5 - encoding failed . . . .

There are several causes of this error, however we need more information:

Please read this topic and it would help if the following information is in your profile signature so we do not have to ask for it:

  • Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset make/model, audio card or chipset make/model, RAM,  hard drive configuration, free space and sizes?

  • Windows version and is it up to date?  Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.

  • Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

Also:

How many timelines (movies) are there in the project?

What is the total run time of all the timelines (movies)?

What file formats are any audio, images and video file on the timelines. This is of particular importance for timeline (movie) 3

Are you using the default DVD preset or have you changed some of their options?

I do have 3 movies in this project, but only 2 are used. I
don't know how to erase the 3rd as it was added by mistake. I couldn't find
anything listed that shows how to delete 1 without affecting the other 2. I
also slowed the speed of transfer down to 30000 from 64000 or so due to a
suggestion I read on line to try to stop the burn failure. I hope I covered
everything.

One other thing, when I close this project after being it in to try and burn a DVD, when I leave it for some reason it has an issue when I come back. I try to open it and it says it can't find the pics in New Folder. I copied all my files and pics into a folder called New Folder and it worked. Next time it couldn't find New Folder 2. I copied the files and pics into New Folder 2 and it worked. Where can I find that command to change the path it is looking for?

Thanks, Anita

IIRC the dropdown at the top left of the timeline has a delete option to remove a timeline from the project - you must be viewing the one you want to remove.

This may fix the issue with the render error.

. . . . it says it can't find the pics in New Folder . . . .

Has the folder has been renamed or are the images on a removable drive or media which is not available?

If on an external hard drive it may be powered down by Windows and has not woken up fully when the program was looking for the images.

The default file paths are set in the programs settings - P key.

Hi John,

I'm embarrassed to say that after making a test slideshow, the dvd burn worked, ugh! So the problem must be having that blank slideshow #3 in the project. I CANNOT find a way to delete that darn thing, even with it showing as the active slideshow, delete is not accessible in the drop down menu, it won't highlight. So, it must be what's keeping the project from burning. I want to thank you for your time, I guess I'll just move on to the next project knowing that it should burn OK. I will try to find a way to delete that third slideshow from the project, there MUST be a way somehow.

Thanks again,

Anita
