Extremely slow download speeds!

Dennis-Walters wrote on 11/29/2020, 1:44 PM

Hi There, I just purchased 2021 versions of music studio and Music maker and I cant install the Instruments etc. My speed yesterday and today is 104 KB/S. My 5G Network speed is 250Mbps. Are there any known problems with the magix Download Servers? Also can I download my files directly ?

Cheers, Dennis

@Dennis-Walters

Hi

I tested this a short while ago and AFAICS there is no significant slow down of downloads from the servers 7 - 9 MB/s - does you network provider throttle download speeds when the 5G network is busy?

Damn, it's been snail speed since 2020 and they still haven't fixed it - less than 150KB/S and getting slower every minute on my 600MB/S connection. Do they have a dial up server? I'm just downloading a trial version but if this is the best they can do I doubt I'll be buying anything.

johnebaker wrote on 2/3/2023, 7:44 AM

@colin-hardman

Hi

No problems with download speed, tested just before posting - averaging 20 - 25 MB/s on a 50MB (400Mb)/s connection.

Depending on your location there may be data throttling in any of the hops between you and the servers.

I have never had this problem downloading from anywhere else! Where are you located? It must have aborted overnight so I tried again this morning:

Purchased Samplitude Pro X7 yesterday, and have been trying to download incessantly since then. The download manager spins the blue wheel then MAY or may NOT begin the download. Then I must repeatedly click continue every minute or so, the download eventually gets to maybe 5 to 8 percent complete and I get a popup stating that the installation failed and to start the download over. If I can't get this downloaded very soon, I will simply demand a refund from Paypal and continue to use my older version. This is infuriating, and points to very poor QC!

Edited to add--- The download speed is not the issue. During the second or two at a time that the download is actually ACTIVE the speeds are fine. The issue is the constant DISconnects, and difficulty STARTING the download.

@Phil-Miller

Hi

The download issue is affecting all downloads from the Magix website and has been reported to Magix.

We are awaiting resolution of this issue.

Something similar is happening to me. The download speed was ok but the installing is extremely slow and it keeps telling me to click on "continue"...and full of errors.

Tim-Zurowski wrote on 2/5/2023, 4:04 PM

Last night I upgraded to Samplitude Pro X7 Suite from Pro X4 Suite. I have done the whole download and installation procedure many times previously, and it always went reasonably smooth without any problems. However, this time trying to download and install Samp Pro X7, the download speeds are extremely slow and it keeps stopping and/or crashing on me. I have been at it for a day now and still have not been able to download everything for the complete install. I am now on the Vita instruments.

The download speeds I am getting (between crashes) are from 150kbs to 1.8mbs. I first contacted my SHAW tech support to confirm that things are okay on my end. They ran through a whole bunch of tests and resets, and have guaranteed me that there is NO problem at my end. The speed test says I am able to download at 544mbs.

This is extremely frustrating and I have been a Samplitude user for a very long time, since the beginning. If I was new customer and had to experience this painful install process, I would seriously be looking elsewhere.

So does anyone have any explanation for this issue? Am I ever going to be able to get the full Pro X7 suite downloaded and installed? Is there no way to actually talk to a MAGIX Tech Support person anymore?

Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers . . . . . . Tim :)

@Tim-Zurowski Are you taking about this forum? https://community.samplitude.com

Tim-Zurowski wrote on 2/5/2023, 5:39 PM

I removed my question about the old forums. I found info that they have been cancelled and moved over to here. Still can't finish my download and install yet though. I guess someone has either hacked the Magix servers, or they have not been able to resolve the problem yet.

@Tim-Zurowski

HI Tim

If you have not already done so today - try downloading again, it appears the issue was fixed sometime between 11.00 am and 11.30 am CET.

Thank you John. They do appear to have resolved the problem, but the download speeds are still relatively slow? My system is capable of 544mbs downloads and yet the Magix server appears to only be providing between 4 and 6mbs.

Cheers

This is the exact same thing that's happening to me. It's really discouraging and makes me wonder if it's worth the hassle. =/ I'm kind of feeling like I understand why this was included in the humble bundle I bought a few years ago. No one wants to sit here and keep clicking "continue" every minute. (NOT an exaggeration!) It's not my internet speed, I get 1 GB v /100 MB ^ and use my own modem and router (separate, not combined), not my ISP's equipment. I've closed all background programs and even some background processes. Task manager doesn't show any sign of my CPU or Memory running high, it has to be Magix downloads being throttled. When I first start the download, one time it was 300+MB and immediately started declining down to about 4-6kb. Might check other forums and/or Google to see if there are issues with this software after it's finally installed just to see if it's worth being frustrated over. I know sometimes shit happens, I work in a technological field, but I saw another forum dating back to 2018. It's been 6 years and this hasn't been fixed. Maybe they're like some of the devs/engineers at my job and claim it's "working as designed". I wouldn't recommend this software simply because of the download speeds being throttled and the download pausing itself repeatedly every minute. Ugh.

SP. wrote on 12/20/2024, 9:57 AM

@Lesha Some ISPs are slowing certain downloads intentionally because the download providers don't pay extra fees for fast speeds. No joke, for example Telekom/T-Mobile does this.

Besides that, it could be server problems because there is a current Humble Bundle that might simply blow out the available bandwidth.

Lesha wrote on 12/20/2024, 10:28 AM

I highly doubt that. Like I said people have commented on this issue since 2018. Also, T-Mobile is cellular so that makes sense. My ISP is cable. I’ll research that regardless, but I highly doubt that’s everyone’s issue for the last 6 years. Also, my humble bundle is from 2021. So unless you mean there’s a current one out for this… but again, I doubt that was the issue for the last 6 years. Just sounds like a bunch of excuses tbh. I’d like to see someone comment here that HASN’T had this issue. Maybe then I’d be willing to believe it isn’t Magix throttling the download speed.

Lesha wrote on 12/20/2024, 10:48 AM

UPDATE: Now that one part finally done downloading, it appears the issue only happened with “Slideshow Maker styles” (thus far). Everything else seems super speedy. We’ll see about the 2GB download for the movie templates (which has yet to even start and I’ve already had to click continue twice, so I’m skeptical). Fingers crossed.

And same here with installing the "Additional Content Packs", or at least the first one for the last hour+. No issues with other sites, etc.. I don't so much mind the tortuously slow speeds but having to CONSTANTLY keep hitting "Continue" is tiresome and annoying - and simply shouldn't have to happen, if it's slow, fine, at least let it keep downloading, I don't get this constant stop/continue business.

😂🤣 I should post more often, now it's running not so poorly, stop/continue nuisance aside.

I don't know why you brought up Vegas? This is about Samplitude Pro X7.

And I didn't say it was fixed. I'm STILL waiting on the download - the speeds had simply increased to "not so poorly"; still have to keep hitting "continue" (as said above).

@W-Quinellipe-Zorn

I don't know why you brought up Vegas?

Because your screenshots clearly show you are downloading Vegas Pro 20, not Samplitude!

I have recently needed to download several Magix product installers, including Samplitude Pro X7, and all have completed without problem. I am not on a fibre internet connection, getting typical d/l speeds about 40mbps. So I don't think the slow downloads are a worldwide problem.

It eventually, after many hours, completed.

And I'm not attributing any cause. I'm just saying the problem exists, for me, only on Magix, and only, in my case, for those additional content packs.
