External HD/Serial Code problems

I recently switched from a old Dell desktop to a newer Compaq laptop, though I am using the same external hard-drive. I attempted to run my Magix Music Maker 14 from the external hardrive, which always results in failure, as it either cannot find a file, or opens a blank white window which greys out the rest of the screen and doesnt allow me to access any of the information which i can actually see on the screen behind the white box.
I was therefore wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to either a) Run MMM from an external hard-drive in the way that i have decribed it or b) obtain/re-obtain a new serial code, so i can reinstall it and reactivate it. i have checked my registered items, however there is no mention of a serial code.
Thanks for any help

You'll definitely have to properly reinstall and reactivate the program to work on your new system. You can't just hot swap an external hard drive with an installed program that actually uses a copy-protection. The whole authentication of the program is based on your system/config. A changed system means at least a new authentication, in this case a completely new installation.

I guess running from the external HDD won't be the biggest problem, as long as you can get the drive to always register in the operating system under the same drive letter. It's still something I would probably avoid.

You don't need a new serial number to reactivate the product. The old one will do. (I guess we're talking about a download version here.) If you lost it, contact Magix customer service and ask them if they can resend it, so you can reinstall and reactivate on the new system.

Good luck!
