I had noticed the colour space. Could that be YouTube re-encoding as I have never seen BT.2020 on YouTube.

That may be something for GID to try out as I can't enforce BT.2020 encoding. I've tried 😉😅.

Have just played the same video in Chrome using the Intel powered monitor again.

and using Firefox

Seems about the same.

In VPX 12 you should have the option for the colour space setting in the project setting dialog, and the HEVC export dialog.

I do have the option but if selected it defaults back to 709 on export.

I assumed because I have no 10 or 12 bit files.

It sticks in VPX 12 (and 13) for me, and the export dialog has the colour space set in the project settings pre-selected.

I was testing importing 8 bit Meerkat video clips.

An annoyance it that none of the exports h.264, h.265 etc have the colour space specified in the metadata that MediaInfo can pick up.

I have found an online video clip analyzer that seems to be able to read the colour space here.

I have found the reason I can't export to BT 2020 is because it wouldn't accept all I frames. I am trying again. If successful I will load the file to YouTube and see if they alter it to 709.

Hi John.

I've come to the conclusion that if the BT colour space is not in the mediainfo data that other exif readers can detect it either. If it is not a part of HEVC's encoded data what is the point or maybe if the bit depth is not enough VPX just doesn't apply it despite the setting.

Here is exif from an export using BY709 from VPX using MP4

And here where MediaInfo can't read the BT2020 exif data is the data back from the upload site.

So my guess is it is not applied in VPX. I think if the source files are not HDR then the higher colour space can't be implemented I am currently uploading the file to YouTube but I'm not hopeful of the outcome as even the 'HDR' videos there show as BT709.

Will add the result here as soon as it is rendered to YouTube.

That upload is not showing any colour space at all in the Stats for nerds.

I did not change the export to 10 bit. I am trying it all over again.
