Dual Layer DVDs - atrocious luck or is just my project

@AAProds

Hi Al

. . . . I suspect (could be wrong though) that Magix wants you to split the project to another disk, not a DL disk. . . .

Using the 'Split project' option does indeed split the project over 2 discs and ISO files - see my post above, here.

As @mark-perry has put a DL disc in the burner and MEP/MMS recognises it, clicking Ignore should create a 'dual layer' ISO file with all the necessary VOBs, and in one or more of the data support files that is created, the layer break point ought to be specified.

Burning software should then see that and burn the disc accordingly to a DL disc. Unfortunately I cannot test this action as I do not have any DL discs available.

I usually do as you let it adapt the bit rate and in this case eg DL 4497 I took it down to 90 just to be safe. Because the adaption changes to fit the disc I insert the chapter 5 frames before the desired position to give me some leverage. It gets a bit repetitive redoing ISOs but it's the only way I've found that works even when I had MEP 2021.

that picture with the 4 discs, DL CDburnerXP aborted after a min Cyberlink at least got half-way before it failed so I did it again & failed at the same point.

I couldn't get ISObuster to read the 3 failed SL, 1 DL but 1 DL did read remember i said it player up to 70m of the 3h54m. The SL that failed file manager said they were dvd-roms but spat them out but the readable DL as a dvd. I think I've scratched the other DL after burning it hence it been unreadable now.

Yes, chapter marks are not frame-accurate (I allow a half a second or so either side) but they shouldn't actually move if you change the bitrate/size of the project.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
