Domain assignment problem after changing global MAGIX web address

ralbuque wrote on 11/22/2012, 12:54 PM

Hi folks. I'm having trouble assinging my registered domain name to the top level MAGIX global address, the default was http://your-name.magix.net. In my specific case it was set to http://aromolo.magix.net.

I first uploaded the entire website, then mapped www.saoluisimoveis.com to the default http://aromolo.magix.net/public and everything worked fine. Then I decided to chang ethe top level global MAGIX web address from http://aromolo.magix.net to http://rentals.magix.net instead.

I purged all the files that were previously uploaded with Xara WebDesigner MX and then republished the entire website.

Now my registered domain name "www.saoluisimoveis.com" is mapped to my prior MAGIX global web address and I can't no longer get it to point to the new top level adderss that should be http://rentals.magix.net/public.  So, every time I hit the domain name, it redirects back to the old MAGIX address that show the error page of "website not found" .

Question:

How to successfully fix this broken mapping as it stands right now ?

Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Are all of your domains hosted by Magix?  If they are you are going to need to log in to your hosting account and use the "assignement" features to assign where the traffic goes for each domain.  I am not sure why they call this assignment when it is really domain forwarding.  By the way the only url you mentioned that actually produces a web site is "www.saoluisimoveis.com"

Good Luck

George

Hi

When you purged and replaced all the files in "http://rentals.magix.net" - was there an option to put the web site into 'off line mode' and if so is it still in 'off line mode' ?

I get 'A new web site is under construction' message when I go to http://rentals.magix.net/public.

I can only suggest he site is offline as I can browse to http://rentals.magix.net/public/index.htm or http://rentals.magix.net/public/venda.htm

I get valid pages there and the domain redirection is working.

Hi there. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all ( John and George ). The wired thing is, that I've just tried to hit both http://rentals.magix.net/public and also www.saoluisimoveis.com and they both work.

As per John's question, there was no option to set the page offline at the time I purged the files and then uploaded all of them again.

As per George's response. Before trying your suggestion, I did one more try at hitting my domain name, and it worked just fine.

Now, I'm at a state where the question is, what really happened and what caused the domain name to be offline for a few hours and always routing to the prior default address aromolo.magix.net/public  ?

I appreciated your help. Many thanks.

Hi,

To add to John's post you must have done something with the http://rentals.magix.net/public/venda.htm site because when I navigated there earlier today there was no site loaded.

It seem like you are on the right track.

Hi

The other possibility is that the change had not got to all the Internet top level domain servers - this can take up to 24 hours.
