Distortion to text when viewing on different browsers firefox and edge

Joe-Madden wrote on 9/30/2020, 12:20 PM

I have uploaded a temp trial website "www.finefood.click " (e.g. entertainment page) some of the text on some of the pages are corrupt when viewing via browsers firefox and microsoft edge. Yet if I view the same pages via the private window on either of the above browsers, the text is fine?

Often later on (e.g. next day), I check and the text is as should be?

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks in advance

Joe

@Joe-Madden

Hi

This sounds like a caching issue between the browser and the web server.

The most typical cause is when parts of the page are cached on the computer or somewhere in between your computer and the website server, eg your ISP, and they are used along with new parts of the page giving a mixture of old and new pages being displayed.

A browser should detect if there is a new page and not use the cached parts, however occasionally it may fail. When this occurs, which should not be that often, then press the F5 key several times to force the browser to reload the web page in its entirety.

Hi John

Thanks for that. However I've tried the F5 to refresh the cache on several occasions , but to no avail.

I don't know why it's normally okay when viewed via private browser?

I wondered if others xara users had experienced this.

Thanks again

Joe

Hi Folks,

Just in case this helps anyone else.

I've checked around and if a website is not displaying correctly it is recommended that you go into your browser and clear the history for the particular browser. This did the trick, the website is now displaying okay.

Cheers

@Joe-Madden

In addition to what @johnebaker wrote, pressing Ctrl+F5, perhaps several times, should force the page to correctly update and remove this problem.

@Joe-MaddenHi

. . . . . I don't know why it's normally okay when viewed via private browser? . . . .

That confirms it is a caching issue, in Private mode, on exit, the browser empties the cache and deletes any cookies etc that were downloaded and saved for that session.

If Ctrl+F5 does not work either, then try manually clearing the cache - consult the browsers manual/Help on how to do this.

Hi John,

Yes, you're right it does look like a cache issue, (BTW the Ctrl+F5 did work on desktop browsers).

Point to note, on the mobile phone version of the website the edge browser displayed text ok after clearing the browsing history, but not so on firefox browser.

After much fiddling with settings I found that in Settings then under accessibility, I set automatic font sizing to "off" and now it displays the website fine.

Thanks again for feedback and advice.

Cheers

Joe

@Joe-Madden

Hi Joe

Thanks for the feedback, hopefully you have no further issues.

Forgot to mention that if you view the site using Safari, it may have issues which you can do nothing about.

Depending on the version, Safari has had issues with some HTML5 'functions' and scripts both of which feature heavily win Web Designer and other web programs.
