@John-H2024 The standard Sound Forge plugins are DirectX plugins and all settings are stored as values in the Windows registry.

For example under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DirectShow\Presets and HKEY_USERS\Some-long-ID-number\SOFTWARE\DirectShow\Presets

Search for the preset names in RegEdit and they should come up. You can then export and import the values.

There was also an old Sony Preset Manager tool available. It lets you manage presets for Sound Forge and Acid, but I don't know if this will run on modern Windows. I haven't tested it yet.

Preset Manager 2.0k Build 114 info https://web.archive.org/web/20150209065845/http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/dl/dl.aspx?dwnid=115

But I don't know how well this let you transfer presets from old versions to the current version. To my knowledge, newer Sound Forge versions also have problems with recalling presets correctly.

@John-H2024

My friend uses Sound Forge 7 and told him to try Sound Forge 18. When he installed Sound Forge 18, the DirectX plugins presets he configured in Sound Forge 7, appeared in Sound Forge 18. Install the trial version of Sound Forge 18 and see if this happens.

He installed Sound Forge 18 without uninstalling Sound Forge 7.

The old SCS Preset Manager 2.0 functions in Win 10 and I use it frequently for saving and transferring chains from one PC to another. The chains can contain both Direct X and VST plug-ins. Individual VST presets can be copy/pasted directly w/o PM.

Thank you all for your help.I have both Sound Forge 9 and the trial of Sound Forge Pro 18 on my PC. The presets don't seem to have been copied across automatically. For example I had made custom presets for inserting silence, but in version 18 only the default ones show up. I will try the Sony Preset Manager.
