Crossfade from a collage to an animated picture

I have a collage clip that should be cross-fading into a picture clip but for some reason the collage is not fading which results in no transition between the clips. This seems to be happening whenever I use a collage. I see the crossfade transition icon in the timeline and storyboard modes but the rendered output and the preview show no transition at all. My hardware is Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 9 X299, Intel i7-7820X with 128GB RAM and two SLI connected MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Any suggestions on how to resolve this appreciated.

Hi Bill,

In Timeline mode (don't use Storyboard unless your project is simple), a collage is created with all of the 5 images plus more. Scroll down using the vertical scroll bar. The last track shows the last image that you see, so this is where you have to make the transition. Drag the next photo down from track 1, if that is where you put it, and overlap it with the photo on the last track.

In Movie Edit Pro and Video Pro X, we can do more, like ungroup the collage and modify it as we wish. Not so in PhotoStory.

Hi Bill, John

There is an easier way to achieve this with out moving clips to other tracks - select the image that the collage will crossfade into and the select the transition button and apply the crossfade transition, Photostory automatically adjusts the lower image(s) to achieve the correct effect.

@browj2 - this also works in MEP and VPX.

You're quite right! Is this something relatively new, or have I missed it all along?

I normally don't use the button to make X-fades, dragging instead. And, I don't often use collages except ones made by me. The drag method does not make the adjustment to the last image, but, as you point out, using the button does adjust the fade out of the last image.

Believe it or not, it has been there since at least MEP MX and presumably the equivalent version of VPX and funnily enough, AFAIK and can find, this is the first time that the question has been raised!
