“Could Not Select Device”

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I keep getting an error message when I try to record DV tape via a firewire (iLink) connection. The message read “Could Not Select Device”, if I pull out the firewire lead a touch then push it back in the camera will be selected. Sometime during recording an error message appears that device cannot be found. I run Window 10 and my camera is Sony HDR-HC9E.

Kind Regards

Peter

@PETER-SMITH1397

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Although I use a different camera I also quite regularly transfer DV tapes to computer using a firewire connection.

By far the most common reason for connection problems using FW is the driver which is the default as installed by Windows. This page is a good place to start to check that you have the best driver on your computer.

However, I also notice you say If I pull out the firewire lead a touch and then push it back the camera will be selected. This suggests a possible problem with either the socket on your camera (not easy to solve!) or the lead itself is slightly damaged. Do you have another lead you could use to test this?

Thanks heaps Jeff I might look at the iLink connection.
