Connecting Yamaha PSR-E323 to record in Sequoia

Hi all,

I am looking to connect my keyboard through a Presonus Audiobox USB via midi and then from USB to a PC in order to play the keyboard through a virtual piano plugin within Sequoia.

I cannot seem to get it to connect as no sound can be heard within Sequoia when I press the keys.

Is there anyone able to give me a step by step guide to setting this up? I've probably missed out a vital step somewhere along the line!

You would only connect this way if you wanted to record the audio output from the PSR-E323.

To control a virtual piano plugin within Sequoia - you need to connect the MIDI out to the PC, however you will need a 'low latency' MIDI to USB converter.

The PSR-E323 would then be selectable in Sequoia as a MIDI controller.

Ok, thanks for the info - I've never recorded virtually before! So will the PC and Sequoia automatically see that the keyboard is connected or will I have to install particular drivers for the Yamaha to be recognised?

Sequoia will recognise either the MIDI - USB converter or the keyboard itself depending on what data is passed from the keyboard to the PC identifying it to Windows.

The drivers you need may be those that come with the MIDI - USB device or Windows itself will install them automatically.

If Windows needs drivers for the Yamaha it should install them automatically if possible, though I never had Windows installing Roland keyboard drivers when it was connected through a MIDI - USB device.

NOTE: if Sequoia is 64 bit version then you will need 64 bit drivers.

I don't suppose you'd know the answer to another related query?! I recorded a song on a DAW that has no USB output, so linked it to PC via the Audiobox. I wanted to save the recording in Sequoia directly rather than saving to a CD and then loading WAV file to Sequoia.

I managed to save the song as a recording within Sequoia but there was a lot of signal noice including a repeating low pulse sound which was audible during the quieter parts of the song.

Would this be down to computer noise or cable interference or what? Is there an easier way to get a high quality clean recording direct from the a DAW to Sequoia?

I presume you are referring to a self contained analogue or digital DAW recording device?

If this device has the ability to write/export the audio to CD then I would use this and import it into Sequoia.

The less number of devices in the audio chain the better - reduces the likelihood of introducing erroneous signals which I suspect has happened.
