Connecting a Sony camcorder to PC and selecting in Magix

iangparker wrote on 1/6/2013, 3:19 PM

I have just purchased Magix Easy 4 HD.

I go to "import videos from digital video camera", then AVCHD camera, but I cannot select the "drive" -- nothing is showing. It is connected via USB cable.   I know that the camera is connected ok, it is listed under devices connected and I can view files ok.  Why isn't Magix showing it as a connection?

Hi

. . . I can view files ok.. . .

Presumably you mean you can see the files using Windows Explorer or Picture Motion Browser (PMB)?

If so just copy the files or use PMB to transfer from the camera to a folder on the PC, then using Easy 4 HD import from the folder.

I also assume the camera is recording to memory card or internal hard drive and not DV tape.

It would help if you gave more information on the camera model

Thank you John.

That worked fine.  But any idea why I cannot import directly from the camera - why no drive is selectible under "select drive" on the import screen?

The camera is a Sony HDR CX130E. And yes, it records to an SD card.

Hi

IIRC this is not selectable because this import option is for a DV camera connected by Firewire. ( I stand to be corrected on this one.)

With a camera that uses an SD card, particularly if you use more than one, you can use a SD card reader, if your computer has one built in or an external card reader, to copy from the memory cards - saves all the hassle of removing and inserting them into the camera just ot copy the files from..
