Connect my photos to the database

I have just started using Photo Manager on a trial basis; I am using Win8.1 Pro. I want to manage my photos, which are all in the Pictures folder on my C: drive.

I have used the Import function, selected the folder option, chosen the correct folder, checked the option to include subfolders, and selected Add folder to Database.

I got a pop-up window that said XXX of 5399 being analysed, and when the pop-up closed, nothing seemed to happen.

I can see the photos in the top level folder (Pictures) and one other subfolder, but all the other folders just show icons, and when I click I get a message "can't open file" and then "contains a non-supported file format" despite the fact they are all standard JPG files.

I feel very stupid and think I must be missing a very simple step. How do I get Photo Manager to "import" all my photos to the database?

Thank you

Laurence
