Hi.

You say you have the same version and patches on both machines but did you download the same content packs? That may be a silly question from me but the content packs are optional.

@CubeAce, my memory is a little fuzzy, but when I first installed VPX12 and used some of my files, I was prompted to download whatever codec I needed and it didn't cost me anything. That was when I noticed that MEP would not allow me to bring in 10bit files, but VPX12 did. I didn't go to the Help>Install Extra Content. And looking what what was installed, it had nothing to do with codecs.

Your file shows white in MMS2024.

But plays fluidly in VPX14,

I've seen this before, the large part of the .mov's I have either load as white like this one does or they don't play smoothly, so I don't use .mov's with MMS/VPX & therefore can't give details of what n why.... Some do some don't 🤷‍♂️

In MEP 2022 only the sound is played.
Image portion is not visible.
The preview images are all white.

@Former user and @Marc-Goder, the file is a 10bit 4:2:2 file. MEP/MMS does not support it. I get the same result as @Former user. VPX14 has no issues with it. I only have MEP on my computer for... hmm.... I should uninstall it. I shot a lot of 10bit 422 video.

@Former user Panasonic files have always played well with whatever editor I am using (except MMS) that I create in the G9. I can't say the same with GH6 HEVC 5.7K (5728x3024) 60P 10bit 4:2:0 files playing back in VPX14. Probably with proxies it might work. The file also has 4 channels of audio.

Hi All

VPX is using an existing AVC Intra codec from, in my case Vegas Pro.

I tested with the video clip as the follows:

In VPX 15 adding to the timeline - All Intra codec required message popped up. Closed VPX 15

In Vegas Pro, added video clip to timeline, pop-up message: 'AVC Intra + DVC Pro codec pack successfully activated', clip loaded onto timeline OK. Closed VP

Back in VPX, added clip to timeline, after 'AVC Intra package will be downloaded . . ., and 'Installed successful' pop-up messages, video imported OK.

The codec was activated in Vegas Pro, but you had to download the codec from within VPX after the adding the clip to the timeline. It was downloaded and installed from within VPX?

That's what I thought and expected.

But Magix needs to solve the recurring problems with importing different video formats and codecs better. If you consider that free software like CapCut, KDENLIVE or ShotCut simply import everything.

Hi John.

My experience mirrored yours exactly with the same pop-up appearing in VPX 14 after downloading the codec for free from my copy of Vegas Pro 18.

@Reyfox

Hi, yes, exactly that. A pop-up appeared saying did I want to install the codec. It was then a separate unpaid for download.

The file plays much smoother in VPX for me than Vegas Pro.

Weird. Cheap (My copy of Vegas Pro 18 was a £20 download from HumbleBundle). and completely surprising. What a loophole.

@CubeAce so it's because of Vegas that you have the ability to download the codec for free? How much is it to buy the codec for VPX?

As for me, in Vegas 18, it plays back in Best>Full at it's full frame rate. It doesn't matter if I have all the thumbnails showing in the event, or like I have it here, just the head and tail, my preferred look.

terrerad wrote on 3/17/2024, 4:53 PM

Hi @Reyfox , I can also confirm the Vegas first technique works. The cost of the codec just through Video Pro X is $69.99.

CubeAce wrote on 3/17/2024, 5:01 PM

@Reyfox

Hi.

Prior to the install it was the same price (adjusted for Sterling) as offered to @terrerad but now I have the codec installed I can no longer see the price for the codec as I no longer get the install codec box come up.

I have just looked at the Magix Website. The upgrade offers have come down quite a bit for MMS versions (cheaper than I ever remember seeing before) until the 26/03/24 . The VPX upgrade offer I think has also come down (I am talking perpetual licence versions.)

@terrerad wow... didn't know that because I have Vegas Pro installed, that it helped VPX! So, it's best to get a Humble Bundle/Fanatical sale first. $70 for a codec is insane. Which version of Vegas Pro did you use? Is it on your other computer and not the one where the problem is?

@CubeAce thanks for the heads up on the MMS sale. Yes, it has dropped down in price a lot! And it comes with Vitascene V5. I get the $109 for VPX15 prompt too.

Hi @Reyfox ,

It was the same licence of Vegas Pro 15 on both machines and now the Intra codec is successfully installed on both and I no longer have a "problematic" one. The 10bit 4:2:2 quality is superb even using the standard picture profiles and while I may delve into Vlog and HLG files in the future I am in no rush to do so. I find the IS Lock function on the G9 insane as it makes handheld video look like it has been shot on a tripod. Thanks to all who contributed to this codec issue.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

The 🤐 I was thinking of was getting my copy of Vegas via HumbleBundle and getting the additional codec for basically free without realising that being able to download an otherwise to pay for codec was even a thing and end up with the HB offer basically paying for the copy of Vegas with change. Then again, I personally have no use for the codec so the gain is a bit of a moot point 😞. Good result for @terrerad though.

I did notice when I tried to drag the file from Explorer into VPX that didn't work for me. I had to load it internally from the program to get that message.

These are the codecs on my system. 🤷‍♂️

Reyfox wrote on 3/18/2024, 9:36 AM

@johnebaker, understood. Activating the codec in Vegas Pro allowed the same codec to be activated in VPX.

@CubeAce, I never paid attention to the codec activation, but I do "need" it since I do edit video where that codec is used by the editing software.

@terrerad, for sure, when I bought the G9 and used it for the first time, the IBIS (in body image stabilization) so impressed me, that I put on the back burner, buying a gimbal. Dual IS is great too. Stabilization in the lens plus the in body camera stabilization. But later, I still bought a gimbal (DJI) and use it fairly often, especially on vacations. I also do shoot in Cinelike D turning down the Contrast, Sharpeness and Saturation, or Standard. I have the battery grip attached too. On the gimbal, I remove it though.

@Former user, like you, I have no idea on when the codec was installed. I know that when I decided to go Win11 Pro, I did a full installation and not an upgrade from Win10. That meant installing the software that I use again. But Vegas Pro was installed first. So maybe I "activated" the codec then. It's been some time. I do remember I had to activate a codec in VPX14, but paid no attention to what it was. I do know that I didn't have to pay for it.

I am glad that it has worked out for everyone who has Vegas Pro installed where they don't have to pay for it, whether you use it or not. At one time, I know I didn't shoot 10bit 4:2:2 MOV, but glad that I have Vegas Pro to handle it, since it is my preferred footage acquisition format.

terrerad wrote on 3/18/2024, 11:53 AM

Hi @johnebaker ,

I tried Cinelike-D previously but found it sometimes did strange things to skin tones in 8bit (probably more due to my grading skills). Now that I am shooting in 10bit I will probably revisit it to see if it works better for me. Thanks and a have a good day!
