choppy video

Hi

. . . . The video which is captured is very choppy and it is only b/w with jumping black screens . . . .

This is typical of what you can get when the wrong TV standard is used for capture, ie if the camera is recording to NTSC standard and capture is set to PAL or vice versa.

If this is not the case, what is the camera model and which settings are you using for capture?

It is Sony Handycam DCR HC32.

I tried the default. Usb video, recording video dvd and user defined 640x480, 24 frame rate, the 4x3, and some other combinations. All results the same...

Some other points: it looks like the HC32 is a NTSC camcorder. Your capture settings should be:

NTSC: 720x480, 4:3, 29.97fps.

Also, check you have "Composite" (yellow video cable) or "S-Video" (4-pin round-plug cable) chosen for the input on the Import tab.

Are you seeing the choppiness on the Preview monitor in Videoeasy before capture when playing your tape or only after capture?

Yes, the connection cables are correct, but there is no option in the "VIDEO SAVER! software to choose NTSC.

The choppiness is seen on the preview screen before recovering, as well as after when playing the capture video.

I tried the suggested settings (apart for NTSC), and received the same result.

I am really frustrated.

In my version (7) of Video Easy there is: File>Settings>Program

What exact program version do you have (Help>About...)

Check the driver for your dongle is up to date:

I checked and my Sony handicam records NTSC format video.

I just purchased the Magix video saver!

The software ver 8.0.0.29 (UDP3)

I did uninstall the software, disable my untivirus program and reinstall as administrator, but received the same B/W choppy video...

No option to change to NTSC format.

I believe that this is the problem.

Happy to find a solution, if any.

Check File, Settings, Program again - see image below:

If it is not there, post a screenshot of the above settings dialogue and also the recording dialogue, Advanced view.

Your program sold in other parts of the world is known as Rescue Your Video Tapes.

Unfortunately the manual I have for that is less than helpful.

I am living now in the UK, but my Sony handicam was purchased in USA, so it is NTSC format. I have no problem streaming to my TV. The problem is the capture card which probably can capture only PAL...

Your screenshot clearly shows the "Settings" menu item down the bottom.

I say again: File>Settings>Program. See if there's a NTSC/PAL setting in there.

Ray, most of those reviews relate to SECAM; I suspect not relevant here. I note that Magix states on it's website that SECAM is not supported. Also, "RYVT", from what I can gather, is the term used to describe the package, which includes the digitiser and the software. The program itself is/was Video Easy, looks like now it's Video Saver.

I had to look up SECAM.

Interestingly yesterday Rescue Your Video Tapes was on the Magix Website and today there is no trace of it.

If you try to look for beginner software for people with no experience (using the filters) there you get directed to Movie Studio. All Magix beginner apps have been pulled from the Microsoft store. Yet Video Saver 2023 is still being sold by some UK distributors.

Video Easy did at one time exist at the same time as Rescue Your Video Tapes / Video Saver. The manuals I have for them are completely different but I suppose they have changed as often as the software as well.

Ray, I'm not going to keep arguing. Your page is the US website. Go to the UK website. In any case, on the US website right now, I just went through the complete purchase process up to inserting my username. That means "Video Saver" or "Rescue YVT" (same product, multiple names) is available now. A few weeks ago, it wasn't available. Now it is.

Re software, we'll have to agree to disagree. I maintain that RYVT/Video Saver is the "package". Video Easy is/was the software.

Let's try to keep on topic.

Hopefully to settle the debate, the core product is the same and has had various names, IIRC the sequence was:

Movies on DVD / Rescue your Videotapes > > > Rescue your Videotapes / Video Easy > > > Rescue your Videotapes / Video Saver

The interface design has changed over time and versions/name changes.

Ray - if you look at the right image header bar you can see this is Movies on DVD 7, my downloaded manual is actually named Rescue your Videotapes.

Hi John.

Thanks for the information as I have only had the manuals to go by and a reliance on search engine results and the fact that all of the programs have been available for download from different sites at the same time just made finding information a mess.

You can delete all my prior entries for the sake of cleaning up any confusions or leave them so people know the packages are roughly the same. If they are the same (no longer disputing this) then the manuals need to be the same in completeness of information.
