Changing save directory

When I try to change the drive when saving a prject, Magix tells me I don't have permmision to, even though I am logged in as the administrator. also when trying to import an audio file it also tells me I can't or, more often than not the program crashes. I assume the problems may require the same answer.

I am using windows 7 professional 64bit and Xtreme photostory on cd & dvd 8 Ver 8.0.5.3. (c1)

Hi

Is the folder you are trying to save to on a second hard drive or external drive - if so were they formatted by Windows 7 or another version of Windows ie XP?

Hi

Am I correct in saying the project you are trying to save on your internal hard drive is loaded from an external drive F: and this external drive was used in your old computer?

If so then you can try taking ownership of the folders on the external drive - to do this right click the root folder ie the top level folder you see in the on the F: drive containing the project - it does not matter if the project is inside other folders within top level folder - and select Properties, click the following in order Security tab, Advanced button, Owner tab, Edit button,

In the center pane you should see Administrators, and possibly your username if you log on to the computer,  - click either of these and check the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects and then click the OK button 3 times.

Note the above is to ensure you have full permissions on the ext HD folder.

Create a new folder on your internal drive for the project(s) - this will give you the correct permissions on this folder.

If the folder you have been trying to save to is empty then take ownership of this as well - if it is not empty then do not try changing ownership of the folder but create a new folder for the project(s) .

You should now be able to save the project in the new folder and change the projects file path in the programs settings to the new folder.

If possible copy the contents of the external hard drive to your computer and having made sure the copy is good - format the external drive using Windows 7 then put all copy back to the ext drive which will now have all the correct permissions.

Hi John

Have done everything you suggest, but it still tells me the the folder does not exist, however I ve saved it on my hard drive using 'save as' I've tried to burn it onto a dvd but it now tells me theres not enough space for the temp file (which is nonsene) as its a 1TB drive, and then says it cant create a temp file. so i'm left with nowhere to go, and I still cant import music files.

Thanks for all your efforts but I am so fed up with this program I think I will bin it & try another

Regards
