Change project path

thekelt wrote on 10/29/2021, 4:52 AM

Just upgraded to Photostory 2022 from 2015. I changed my install path to drive E but missed the projects path thin king it could be changed later. There is no way in the program to do this, a bad mistake in my opinion, but wondered if there is a way to adjust the path for data if it is saved in an INI file or similar for example. Or do I have to re-install to reconfigure the data path? Thanks, Scotty.

Version 21.0.1.80 latest. Win 10 64bit i7 32 Gb Ram

@thekelt

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

I'm not sure I agree that what you are asking about qualifies as a bad mistake; most users will be quite happy with the default locations!

However, as with all the MAGIX programs I use, there are a great many opportunities for the user to change the defaults. The Projects folder location can be changed by simply going to File>Settings>Program (shortcut Y) and selecting the Paths tab. Make the changes there you wish to do and the program will remember and retain your changes.

Thank you Jeff. Don't know how I missed that other than I was getting tired and been staring at my computer screens all day. Been using computers since 1980 so while modern systems like win 10 work pretty reliable, I'm old school and have since at least the early 90's separated operating system from programs from data. So C for system, D or E for Programs, and G-W for data drives. I've found this makes cleanup and back ups a lot simpler as I don't tend to backup system or program information, just data. Cheers, Scotty thekelt.

@thekelt

My computer is set up in a very similar manner to yours, (OS (and a very few programs) on C:\, Programs on D:\, data on several others, both internal and external) so I fully understand your thinking!

Whatever, I'm glad to hear the problem is resolved for you!

Hi

. . . . separated operating system from programs from data. So C for system, D or E for Programs, and G-W for data drives . . . .

However do note that, even though you install to an alternative drive, programs will still install components in specific Windows folders located on the C drive - this is a requirement of Windows. There are very few programs for Windows that are totally self contained and can be put anywhere and they will run.
