can't upgrade sony vegas movie studio 11 to movie studio 24 platinum

bebop-senju wrote on 4/4/2024, 8:31 AM

when i open my program that i've been using for years, i get an ad telling me i can get the latest software as an upgrade to my current product for just $20. however, no matter what i try, i can't seem to get this to work. it also seems like i can't register my movie studio to my magix account with my serial number? looking for some help to understand all of this.

@bebop-senju Hi, I'm not sure about your problem, but 'movie studio 24 platinum' is not an upgrade from sony Vegas movie studio 11, they are different programs. The closest correct upgrade would be to Vegas Pro. Download the Trial of Movie Studio 24 & the Trial of Vegas Pro before you pay anyone anything.

PS. I should say that Magix Movie Studio is a good basic program & for $20 is a good purchase. but it requires a fairly modern PC to work well, Vegas movie studio 11 was released in 2011 so I wonder what specs your PC has? Is it as old as Vegas movie studio 11? Can you share your CPU (Processor) GPU (graphics card), the amount of RAM you have & which Windows version you are running.

Hi

@Former user is correct, for more information see this comment for a little background information and a link to some tutorials of Magix Movie Studio, to help with the trial version of Movie Studio.

As a user of Vegas Movie Studio 11, Vegas Pro Edit would be more familiar to you.

Hi.

To add to the comments by @Former user.

A lot of the older programs will no longer run on Windows 10 onwards and the newest ones won't work on older operating systems. All current and recent past programs start with a P3 registration code. Much older programs I don't think are available for download any more as they are technically no longer within their lifetime guarantee which would normally mean the operating system they were designed to work with is no longer supported. Registering a product would have needed to be done at the time of purchase and an account activated. To use that account again the original email address you used at the time would be needed to log in as the activation code is only for the program you licenced.

There are no Magix staff on these forums to help you with these problems. For that you would have to contact Magix via their main website or via the infoservice@magix.net email address.

to answer as many questions as i was asked: my pc is more than capable of running current software. i've got amd ryzen 9 5900x, ddr5 32GB ram, and a 4070ti and i'm running windows 11. so upgrading isn't an issue. i've also been running movie studio 11 forever cause its just what my sister bought for herself ages ago and we've been sharing it since.

so if i wanted to upgrade to the current version of vegas pro, i wouldn't be eligible for the upgrade discount despite having the software? i suppose without the ability to register it under my account, that would be the case right? additionally, i don't think my sister ever registered the software with an account and simply just downloaded the program and put in the serial number.

(also, i appreciate everyone who responded to help! much love)

Hi.

For specific questions regarding older versions of Vegas products and possible upgrades it would be better to ask those questions on the Vegas Creatives forums. The link to which can be found at the base of each page here.

The forums here deal specifically with Video Pro X and Magix Movie Studio which is not the same product you have which is Vegas Movie Studio. You could also ask Magix directly via the email address I gave earlier. They are the ones with the power to offer upgrades or not. We are only users on the forums and do not represent the Magix company in any way, nor can we say with any confidence what could or could not be offered to you.

@bebop-senju Maybe it's registered under your sisters account which would have been Sony Creative Software at that time.

Anyway for your Vegas questions suggest you post on the Vegas forum https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-pro-forum/

You may be. It's just that Magix didn't own Vegas when you bought Movie Studio 11 and may not have any details on you, especially if you didn't register it then. Spooky though that you're getting upgrade emails on a program that is years old wasn't even owned by Magix then.

I'd second Ray's suggestion: contact Magix at infoservice@magix.net and explain the situation.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
