Hi

Magix support are referring to the drivers for graphics card(s) in your computer, and you have the correct settings in Photostory.

For the Program settings press the Y key on your keyboard and select the Device options tab.

In the dropdown in the Video mode section, see image below, you will see what graphics cards you have available - these are the options I have yours may be different .

Note the options you have for Intel, NVidia or AMD, you may have 1 or more,including the model numbers where available, and post them in a reply so we can advise you more.

Dear John Thank you so much for your helpful reply. Had the Magix support told me to "pressV" I would have saved hours of playing around with the program. Magix had told me to change the setting to CPU. It is already on CPU, so I think I'm ok. But perhaps you could help with another problem. When I played back my show two of the slides (which were definitely included) had segued into a black gap. Before I burned the show a message appeared to say that I had "missing files". What on earth happened and how can I get them to appear? Your help would be much appreciated.

Sorry I was so unclear. John has helped me solve one problem. The other is that I have "missing files". Not in the Timeline, but when I try to burn the show. I get a warning, which refers me to the 2 missing files, but I have no idea how to coax them back.

Another area you might help me is that I cannot get rid of the Black Friday pop-up ad which has been dominating my computer screen now for days on end. any advice welcome.

Assuming you are getting an error message like this:

Click the Folder button and browse to the location where the file(s), you may have to do this one by one as the file missing message pops up, if the missing files are not in the same folder.

Note: If the files are on an external storage device eg USB Memory stick, external hard/SSD drive or Memory card then this must be plugged in so the program can access them.

I would not recommended using, memory sticks or memory cards as a storage media for working with Photostory, the program must create support files for video, if you are importing video, in the same folder as the video files.

The message I am getting is "sections found that did not contain any image". However the images are sitting nicely in the Timeline. I followed your advice to go back to the original folder - which is on myu PC. I deleted the ones that were supposedly missing and re-instated them. But the message persists and when I burn the show I have only blanks. Any other ideas - and thanks a million for your help so far Janet

What format are the missing images?

(If you're not sure, check the extension shown for those images, it should be something like .jpg or.jpeg or similar, e.g. "Image Name.jpg".)

It would seem that those particular images may be in a format which PS cannot handle, especially if they are RAW (whose file extension can be various, e.g. "CR2", "CR3" or "NEF" etc., etc., etc.) If they are RAW it seems likely that PS is showing what is termed an image's "embedded .jpg thumbnail" on the Timeline but the actual file, rather than its thumbnail, is not compatible with PS and so cannot be exported to your slideshow.

So, please tell us what file extension(s) is/are shown for those problem images.

Is this the error message you are getting?

If so it means there are gaps between objects in the timeline, on track 1, which do not contain any video or image, these gaps may be very small, ie as little as 1 frame see image below, the indicated number tells you how many gaps there are, it does not tell you where they are, only the largest gap size.

In timeline mode:

1. position the timeline cursor to the start of the timeline
2. press Shift + 5 (top row of keyboard) to jump to the first gap
3. close the gap
4. repeat steps 2 and 3 until all gaps are closed

John I did as you said - or thought I did. But shift plus 5 just took me to the end of my show. I've played the show back and it's so frustrating to see the slider moving across the show and then go blank. I've tried deleting the slide which doesn't appear and re-doing it - to no avail. I've tried positioning curser on various places at the start of the timeline - must be doing it wrong. Definitely the same error code I'm getting.

I was asked about the format. All the slides are JPEG except for a few MOV. The majority are working fine. Didn't encounter this some months ago when I burned my last show. But then I hadn't uipgraded to 2025

I don't think we established one thing: is it always the same images that are black/blank? Or are these "drop-outs" occurring at different points in the show?

If it is always the same images I still think this could be a file format problem; unfortunately, there are are various "types" of jpg/jpeg files. Can you possibly post ONE of the problem files to a file-sharing site and then give us the link to download it? I think we might be rather more helpful to you if we could actually see a file!

Do all the .MOV files play without problem?

On the other hand, if the blanks occur randomly, different on each attempted playback/export I'm currently out of ideas!

Oh dear, Not quite randomly. The same slides (I think) There are 3 blank areas. But all files should be identical. I'm afraid your idea of file sharing is beyond me - I'm 80 in a couple of weeks time and just haven;t learned how to do this stuff. I'm going to have another look. The movies (only 2 are playing perfectly.....for the moment. I did have a crash this afternoon. Probably because I was opening and closing the program so much. I do appreciate your help. I looked at the user manual - it said how to identify the blank slides, but not what to do when one had done so!

Thank you for this latest reply, and I do understand the "problem of age". I'm 73, so not too far behind you!

Instead of thinking about uploading a file, could you follow this tutorial - you can do it step by step - to give us an analysis of one of your problem files? Although the app it refers to is primarily for video files it can also be used for images and audio files.

Hi emmrecs Thank you for the video. I shall explore it when I get some free time. In the meantime I am now certain that it is not the individual slides but the place in the timeline where they appear. There were 3 blanks initially. I don't know what I did (delete a slide I think) and reduced them to 2. But they refuse to disappear. It's only a problem on playback. I can see the slides perfectly, but when playback begins............the problem starts.

Check the 3 images, that are 'black', have the transparency handle, circled in the image below is up as far as it will go.

Well success at last. I don't know what I did, because I had played around with the show an awful lot. But suddenly the dreaded message said I only had one blank and when I burned it I failed to notice it at all. The sad thing is that I won't know how to fix it if it happens again. May I thank you all, especially John for assisting me. I do not find the Magix instructions particularly helpful. They tell you what you can do - but not how to do it. Janet

Pleased to hear you have got the export done.

There is one time when you may get the message about blank areas and yet visually there is nothing wrong with the playback in program or the exported video.

As you can see above 2 objects, are on track 2 with gaps in track 1.

During preview playback in program there is no discontinuity, or black gaps, in the movie, nor on export however the Gaps warning does popup on exporting. Clicking Ignore in the gap warining dialog allows the export to continue.

Technically there is nothing wrong with the above layout, however the program only looks at track 1 for continuity, so it pops up the gap warning dialog.
