Burning slideshow as a Blu-ray iso takes 9 hours

Steve-2021 wrote on 10/23/2021, 9:13 PM

I am using Photostory 2022, original version.

I know there have been two upgrades, but when I upgraded to version 21.0.1.76, some of the effects did not work, so I put the original version back, until I finished the slideshow I was working on.

The slideshow I have is 35 minutes long, and includes about 570 photos and 4 videos, plus music.

When I burned an iso file as a DVD, this took about 40 minutes.

When I try to burn an iso file as a Blu-ray, it tells me it will take about 9 hours. This seems way too long.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . I am using Photostory 2022, original version. . . when I upgraded to version 21.0.1.76, some of the effects did not work, so I put the original version back, until I finished the slideshow I was working on. . . .

What is the version number of the 'original version' ?

What is your computer specification - see this topic for details of what is required, and please quote the processor and graphics card/chipset make/model in full?

. . . . When I burned an iso file as a DVD, this took about 40 minutes. . . When I try to burn an iso file as a Blu-ray, it tells me it will take about 9 hours. . . .

The time taken is a predicted time and the actual burn could be shorter or longer.

Longer burn times are to be expected when burning to Blu-Ray as there is approx 3 times as much data to be processed.

The time estimate is likely to be close given the number of images in the project, it is most likely that you are not getting any Hardware Acceleration from the graphics card(s) installed in your computer - the information requested will help determine if this is the case, in hich case all encoding for the images is being done using the CPU.

@Steve-2021

Hi

Thanks for the computer specification.

I assume from the GT 745M that this is a laptop which is the bare minimum for working with Photostory 2022 and the latest update 'tipped it over the edge' with respect to hardware requirements and Direct X 12 - the HD4600 does not support DX 12 and the GT 750M has minimal support for NVENC.

What is the make/model of the BD burner, and is it internal drive or an external USB device?

You can burn the ISO to disc using Windows 10 or burning software such as ImgBurn (free) Nero Burning ROM etc.

Personally I often burn to ISO, or rewriteable disc, and mount this in Windows for checking with VLC before committing to a permanent disc.

In the Program settings, Device options, Video mode section which GPU is set?

Hi

Yes, this is a Toshiba laptop.

The BD burner is an internal drive - Matshita BD-MLT UJ262ABW.

I could not find the Program settings, Device options, Video mode section. However, when I ran dxdiag, the display tab was pointing to the Intel display adapter, and the render tab was pointing to the NVIDIA adapter.

I did have Photostory 2020, but when I was going to do a larger slideshow, I decided to update to Photostory 2022. Do you think if I reinstalled Photostory 2020 that my system might handle this better? Although I suppose creating a BD iso file would still take the same time.

Hi

That may help if you have, or can get, the Photostory 2021 download - once you updated to 2022 the download for 2021 available in your account at magix.com may have been replaced by the current version.

The Device options tab in the program settings is as shown below - it is currently set to my Intel GPU,

in your case try setting it to the GT 750M, If the setting is already the GT 750M or does not improve the performance then the GPU cannot be used for Hardware Acceleration. If you have the option to use Microsoft Warp device then select that.

Hi John

I did reinstall Photostory 2020, and it did make the blu-ray burning process a bit quicker, but not to an acceptable level. So I guess my options are to upgrade my system, or find different software that my system can handle.

Either way, thank you for your help.
