Burned DVD's will not play in my sony Blu Ray.

joyZ wrote on 4/14/2017, 1:09 AM

I have tried memorex and Verbatim DVD+R and DVD-R and get the same error when trying to play on my sony. The DVD's play just fine on my laptop. I read some of the post and see that may others have same problem. I have tried locating the latest patch to install but unable to. When i log into Magix I do not see photostory 2015 listed under magix support page, only my old version Photostory 2013. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I'm burning direct fro Photostory.

Version Number of Photostory 2015 is 14.0.6.69. I have been unsuccessful finding the latest patch.

Encoder Settings: Standard DVD NTSC. Burning Speed: 4

Hi

Try setting the Burn speed to 2x or 1x

I would advise getting a couple of DVD-RW discs for doing initial burns, they save you money if you have to make changes to the movie or a burn fails and you can re-use them.

Once you have a good burn you can use Burn Project (image) again option under the File menu or use a disc copying program such as Nero, ImgBurn or to copy the DVD-RW disc to DVD-R .

I would not recommend using DVD+R discs - while alleged to be better than DVD-R - they appear to cause a few issues.

Although my DVD discs are DVD-R they appear in the burn session as DVD+R

Another thing is that having a standard cd-rom I can only burn to the two star setting and the definition as rotten. I also made an image file (VOB) to a directory on the HDD and the definition of the file is the same as that burned.

Hi

. . . . a standard cd-rom . . . .

Do you mean 'a standard cd-rom' or a DVD/CD-ROM drive ?

What is the actual model number of the drive - to find this do the following:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and in the left pane, right click Computer
  2. Select Manage
  3. In the left pane click Device Manager
  4. In the right pane click the > in front of DVD/CD-ROM drives
  5. There you will see the actual model number of the drive.

Hi John, I meant DVD/CD Player. It is a TSSTcorpCDDVDW SH-244GB ATA Device. I am trying to improve the definition on a 2 minute test video. I had the chance a few years ago to use Proshow Producer which resulted in high quality DVDs. Exporting Mpg-4 files are of high quality but it is the conversion to VOB which suffers. I know that sitting about 6ft or so from the TV screen masks the problem but I am seeing the results on the computer monitor and it irks me. I shall probably just use a USB stick plugged into the TV and make do with that..
