thank you CubeAce... This occurred several times. I just had a Microsoft Windows Update and it could have been from that... I uninstalled and off course it did not complete. I was not allowed to install because the uninstall had not completed. So I deleted the program files and rebooted. Then I was able to reinstall as the .dll files were unloaded and magixally disappeared. Now it works. Funny the movie studio 18 would not work but now it does.
17 and 18 are joined at the hip. The updater in 17 version 3....? was seen as a virus by Webroot. I uninstalled it.
I should clarify that the installation file for the undater in the cache was blocked, yet the updater installed and worked. However I removed it. In the end, I don't know why 17 won't start. Perhaps the verifying server was down and the programs went to sleep, LOL. These things are rarely my machine, but something caused by the many Microsoft updates and the vendors lack of updates to the plethora of changes. Otherwise I have little problems with win 10. I am holding off on windows 11 as my first go with it was disappointing. PB

I don't think so. I just thought that I would point out that MS17 was by Vegas, MS18 by Magix, a copy of Movie Edit Pro. They are entirely different programs.

If neither even starts, then something is wrong with your setup, installation or something, not with the programs.

You may want to try using the Microsoft uninstall tool first to make sure that the program(s) are completely uninstalled, then install them again.

And, of course, add in your complete computer and OS specs to your signature as indicated by Ray.

I too am still on Windows 10.

There appears nothing wrong with the servers as my Copy of MS 16 is opening flawlessly.

I think it is better on average to make an exception to scanning a folder to be given to any antivirus \ malware software than uninstall a needed program and cause multiple broken registry items or the possibility of deleting a needed dll. file that may need to be shared between more than one program.

Uninstalling a program should be the last resort rather than an earlier one.

From the perspective of other users trying to help we have no real idea of where to start trying to help without as much possible relevant information as possible being supplied.

Leaving out such details sometimes puts a person that may be able to help off of replying and playing an unnecessary game of twenty questions.

Your choice of course but expect possible slower replies to queries.

Guys, I was able by manhandling the files, to uninstall 17. I rebooted and then could reinstall. Now it works fine and 18 which suffered the same fate, works. So, It could have been the antivirus, Webroot, but I turned it off and there were no quarantined files. Also the programs have run for 6 months just fine. I had a windows update a few days ago and always wonder what those will do to my setup. I keep a full image backup of the drive, so "going back" is not big deal. There is always the server to consider and I suspect that there may be more than one serving their clientelle. Again, I never have issues with the many programs I have and that both were affected, I have to ask myself what is common to make the icon blink on and then off. Maybe Magix isn't 'answering the phone' LOL.

Hi! This problem seems to be happening to me now as well. It worked fine, and now, after I started my computer again, when I click the icon, the cursor loads for a second then nothing else happens! This is incredibly annoying, as I have followed the above advice several times, and now this isn't working again! (I am on Win 11 using Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum)
