My blu ray of a wedding i just created playes fine on my PC but when I play it on my Playstation 3 it sounds like its reading the disc but then the screen goes black and stayes black.  Is there a reason some Blu Ray players wont read my discs.  Customers are asking for the product but I cannot assure them it will work.

Hi.  I use BD discs quite rarely but, like DVDs at times, I suspect some types of disc are "read" by BD players more easily than others.

So, what make of blank discs are you using?  Are they, perchance, dual-layer?  So far, I've not needed to write any dual-layer BDs but I wonder whether the problem that some DVD players have in reading D/L DVDs also could apply to D/L BDs.  (I well remember one job I did for a client - 3 D/L DVDs - all "full", which his player could not play!  The additional "editing" and exporting/burning required to move the material to single-layer discs lost me rather a lot of time!)

If your program fits onto a single-layer disc, did you try writing it to a BD-RE (rewritable disc) first?  Unfortunately, I don't think that dual-layer rewritables exist!  However, and this has proved 100% true since I made this change, although I export and produce the Disc Image in MEP/VPX, I actually burn D/L DVDs using (free) ImgBurn.  The set-up procedure for this for dual-layer discs is somewhat "complicated" but, once mastered, the resulting discs seem to play without problem on ALL DVD players.  I wonder whether the same could apply to D/L BDs?  The app is certainly capable of burning BD discs; just not sure about dual-layer.

peter3,

I am having the same issue. I have been burning Blu-ray dvd's with movie edit pro mx, movie edit pro 2013 and I just tried Video pro x5 by magix and none of them work on the playsation three. It drives me crazy because I love using movie edit pro to edit wedding, but I hate telling brides it will not work on a PS3. So far I have not found a work around for this and the reason I joined this group was to see if anyone else was having the same issue. Let me know if you find out anything, because my next step is to move to Adobe or Final Cut Pro...which I don't want to do, but I might have it.

As in my previous reply to peter3, unfortunately there are all sorts of reasons why a particular BD player/games console will not play a particular BD disc.

First, we need to be absolutely clear, are you trying to burn DVDs or BDs?  Are they single-layer or dual-layer?  Come back with this information and we may be able to suggest possible solutions.

I had exactly the same problem with 10 Blu-Ray BD-R discs that I burned with MEP (v13.01.4)!

I believe that MEP Blu-Ray burning routine is problematic.

After this very expensive effort, I used the MEP option to encode the Blu-Ray files in "Directory". Then I used the excellant, user supported,  ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/ ) program to use this directory to burn the discs using the same brand of Blu-Ray discs. These discs played without any problems on my PS3!

Magix, are you "listening"? Please take a look at you Blu-Ray burning routines. They cost me a significant amount of money for discs I could not use!

Hi

@ Ralph_S

. . . . Magix, are you "listening"? . . .   - this is a user forum not Magix support.

As Jeff has said, MEP is very capable at burning BD and DVD discs.

Without knowing the specifics of the disc make and type you are using it is difficult to advise on what is wrong.

However I recommend using good quality discs - I use Verbatim BD-RE and BD-R and have no problem with burn failures.

Many BD, and DVD, players are fussy about which types of discs they will recognise.

For DVD discs I have found that those which use the G5 dye are the most universally accepted in DVD players.

For the PS3 I would suggest you read the compatability / disc format requirements in this document - in particular notes 2,3 and 5 to10.
