@David-Lay5409 Sound Forge Pro or Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab? If the MP3 encoder isn't working properly, it might help to reset the program settings. In Sound Forge Pro this is possible under the File menu. In Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab you should be able to restore the default behavior via the Help menu. Then try again to export as an MP3 file.

I'm using SF Audio Studio 16. What settings should I have for that?

@David-Lay5409 The same as in Sound Forge Pro. File > Reset all preferences and cached data.

Hi @David-Lay5409, I just tried out the Sound Forge Audio Studio 16 Vinyl Recording tool and apparently that is the default, in the final Vinyl Recording window, there is a 'Format' (context menu) which should have the MP3 option.
FWIW, when compiling files for an album and/or further editing, encoding MP3s for the end-user should be the final step to maintain quality...
Can you encode an MP3 from a previously recorded file?

Thank you - I should have realised that's how you do it! All is fine now.

same problem...When I use Audio Vinyl Recording, I can only save the file as a WAV. It won't save as mp3. I tried to reset to defaults but that was no help. I also uninstalled and reinstalled, again no help. I can't even save the file in File|save as....it looks like it is there, but windows can't open it... HELP

I tried the 'Tools> Audio Vinyl Recording' and could not encode an MP3 either in both Audio Studio 15 & 16). When MP3 save is initiated, the progress bar stays at 0%. A bug? Contact Magix support.

A work-a-round is to cancel the Vinyl Recording save and select to save as a PCM (wav). MP3s can be encoded from the PCM file. You could also record you source manually to SFAS. "File> New", then "Transport> Record". If need to see the record level meters: "View> Record Options"
Use restoration tools afterwards if needed, then encode the end user MP3.

I've tried my friend, I still can't do it

Resetting Sound Forge usually resolves the MP3 issue.
