Audio problem with playback of old .avi files

Using Movie Edit Pro v.19.0.1.31 with Win10 but have also had this problem in earlier versions of MEP. When I import an old Sony hi8 video, the video is fine but the audio is corrupt and noise so loud you can't understand it - sounds like the film sprocket sounds that you used to hear on 16mm projectors. Really loud. The file plays fine on other video players with normal sound. I was thinking this might be a codec problem but why would it play ok on other software? This is the only video editor I've chosen to purchase and tech support has been unresponsive. Attached is a sample video clip but it might sound ok on your machine with your codecs. Any ideas?

Hi John.

My PC browser is Firefox and retains previous visits unless I empty the cache manually. Still only Peter is missing.

Not keen on Edge yet.

This hasn't happened on any other site I visit but then contact here is possibly closest to Flickr's way of doing things but there you click on the 'reply' icon but it uses an @ embedded into the background I think.

Still, if we are all suffering equally 😌

Hi both: I've asked Movavi support for an explanation and will report back if/when I get one.

It's taken them three weeks (and a chaser) but here is their reply:

We are really sorry to keep you waiting. The earlier versions of Movavi Video Converter used to support the external codecs for opening videos. Unfortunately, we had to change that due to internal and copyright reasons. If you happen to have any screen recording tool, we would suggest recording that video during the playback to turn it to the desired format that way.

Hi and welocome to the forum.

The issue @William-Murphy was having has already been solved - see page 2 of this topic.

However it is good to know that there are alternatives to DVDate which was recommended by Magix.
