Audio & Music Lab premium mfc120.dll problem

Running latest version of AML Premium, and Windows 7 64 bit.

This has been fine for a few years but recently when I try to start the program I get this:

"The program cant start because mfc120.dll is missing from your computer."

If I reinstall the program it works again. Also if I follow some steps as recommended elsewhere and reinstall MS Visual C+++ package it works again. But if I have to reinstall the program every time I want to use it, then its no good to me. I would like to see a fix to this as I like the program and have used it for years.

I have other Magix software and it seems okay: Video ProX is fine.

Any ideas anyone? Magix support staff especially?

Hi there,

Sounds like something on your system might be repeatedly rolling back or otherwise messing up the C++ redistributable package - at least the Visual Studio 2013 one used by Cleaning Lab. (A current Video Pro X version would be using a newer generation of the C++ redistributables.) There are installers that have been known to be a bit naughty and simply remove older C++ redist packages, and replace them with the version that their particular software requires (based on the incorrect assumption that only the current version would be necessary, I assume). However, different generations can co-exist on one system, and some software might actually be compiled with an older Visual Studio version and require the older redistributables.

Seeing as how this apparently keeps happening for you all of the time, my money would be on this being some other software that you're running, though - possibly something in the category of a back-up or system optimisation tool. I could see a software like that always rolling back your system to a specific state, which may not have the redist package installed. However, the bottom line is that this is not a common problem I've come across before (meaning this problem happening over and over again), and I cannot name a specific culprit that is known to do this. So, I hope the thoughts above help you narrow and identify what is causing this behaviour on your system.

It looks like I have several versions of the MS programs installed, including 2013. I cannot think of anything that messes with my main programs or system settings apart from an actual OS patch or update. So I might give it one last chance, and install that again, and if it continues to fail will use a different audio editor in future.

So I just reinstalled the program. It turns out that what was missing was 2013 C++ redistributables (x86)

The 64 bit version was still there. Now the 32 bit version is reinstated. I cannot see any reason why that would be removed by any program or update. Lets see how it goes.
