At the end of my rope

anthony-russo wrote on 12/11/2018, 8:25 AM

This has been a terrible first year for me using Samplitude Pro X3. I have had nothing but quirky issues and am jumping ship. My problem is that I still have about 5 projects that need to be completed. Of course, the quirkiness of Samplitude refuse to allow me to do that.

In one project, I am using a couple of the VITA vsti drums. All was fine last time I opened the project. Today, there is no sound from my Vita Pop Drum Funky Hi Hat. All the midii data is there. Just no sound. MIxer volume all the way up has no effect. If I right click and change to any other drum, there it is, albeit the wrong sound. If I switch back to the original hi hat, still there. If I click out of the Vita interface, sound disappears. This goes on for a while. Now when I do the same steps, there is no sound. I can see the vita drums being played in it's interface, however, there is not mixer volume and no green sound level action. I have another track using the same drum except I am using Toms and it plays fine. This kind of stuff drives me batty and is the reason I have switched back to Cakewalk, where I experience no issues at all. What can be causing this? Nothing s muted. All settings are correct which is why I do hear sound when I change to a different drum. Either Samplitude or Vita plugins are the issue.

Second question, everyone in the Cakewalk forum asks me why I do not simply save the entire project as a mid file and open in Samplitude. Well, if I knew how, I would but the only option I see to save my project as is a VIP.I just got to get these few projects out without re-recording everything and I can be done with Samplitude for good. Thank you.

Update: I just snooped around and looked at the Vita interface and noticed that the volume knob was all the way down. I rotated it louder and it worked so I saved the project. I closed and reopened. Volume back to zero. Why is that happening?

I also attempted to export as a mid file but that just throws everything onto one track and is unusable in any other program.

UPDATE: I right clicked the volume knob of the Vita drums and somehow reset it. SO, now the volume is holding. I have no idea why it began behaving the way it did.

So, now my issue is still why I cannot save this project as a .mid file so I can open in any other midi editor.

What do you mean by "patch"? If you mean what version, then it is 14.4.0.518 (DC2)

Just click in the main menu Edit > Export > Export MIDI File. This should work for you :-)

I did that and all I got was one single track with every instrument included. That’s probably a mid0 file. I cannot use that. I need individual tracks. I did. To see an option to choose that. Have you done this yourself successfully?

Solo out the midi track and then export it...

Hi,

There is a dedicated Samplitude forum at:

https://support2.magix.com/boards/samplitude/

You should all sign up there. Plenty of information and help.

To export MIDI under File, Export, Export MIDI file, there are two modes, Single Track format and Multiple Tracks format. Select Multiple Tracks and export. When you import back into Samplitude or to another DAW, you should be asked whether you want it on a Single Track or Multi-Track. Select Multi-Track.

Soloing doesnt help because I will wind up with 10 different midi tracks. I want one midi file that includes all of the separate tracks. Thanks anyway.

anthony-russo wrote on 12/13/2018, 12:30 PM

John CB, I do not get any such dialog box. When I click Export\Midi, all I can do is browse for a location, There is no prompt window as you shows in your post.

Thanks Browj2. Unfortunately, I do not get an option. After import, I only get a browse to folder dialog box. Nothing like in the video.

browj2 wrote on 12/14/2018, 10:23 AM

@anthony-russo

Can you post of picture showing the tracks that before export?

Can you give a step by step of what you are doing to export the MIDI tracks - exactly what is written that you select on each screen, or make a video of it? The same with importing a MIDI file?

Did you download and install everything under Help, Download Instruments and Sounds?

I would get a simple browse to folder. I contacted Simplitude support. They had me go into my options and reset all of my Dont Show This Message Again boxes. Then it magically re-appeared. Thanks for trying though.

browj2 wrote on 12/16/2018, 7:24 PM

Seriously?

These screens show up by default. You have to actually click in the box so that they don't show up again. So, you clicked in the box to turn off the dialog screens and then complained that you weren't getting what everybody sees, and you didn't mention it. We are not clairvoyant; I guess that Magix is.

I guess they are too. I dont ever remember checking the box to never show again but I must've when I first got the program. That was a good catch.

Thanks, I right clicked and was able to control volumes. After years of using Vita and cursing the volume reset problem, it seems to be solvable. Why wouldn't Vita put a little hint in their GUI?

I'm having the same problems with third party plug-ins now too and unfortunately I can't right click those volume knobs to fix them

SP. wrote on 3/5/2023, 3:34 AM

@anthony-russo Check your MIDI events in the MIDI editor. Maybe there are volume changes which set the volume to zero. You need to either delete these events or change the volume level set by them.
