@jeffrand

Unfortunately, not all mp3s are created equal! The format includes quite a number of possible sample rates, bit rates etc.

Do you know the sample rate and bit rate of the file you are trying to import? If not, the free MediaInfo utility will analyse it. You can find how to download install and use MediaInfo here. Although primarily designed for video files it will also analyse audio files. You can post the results of the Text view here for others to advise, if you wish.

Do you have the facility to convert your mp3 to a .wav file? If so choose a sample rate of 48kHz and a bit rate of 16 bit and Video Easy should import and read the file without problem.

I have been importing mp3 files into my projects for years. In a new one I loaded in 16 small audio mp3 clips as usual but when I tried to import a larger file it would not go.

Now even the original small clips won't load in - the original ones are in place and work fine.

I have tried wav files and rendered to mp3s at 44.1K and 16 bits.

I can import an mp4 file and other projects seem to be OK with the files I need to import.

Is there a setting somewhere in my project that is preventing me from importing the audio? I don't see anything in the manuals about this.

As I wrote previously, not all mp3s are created equally, so it is very difficult to give you a direct answer, sorry.

However, I note you say your files are 44.1 kHz. Have you tried using 48 kHz, which is the standard sampling frequency for audio for video?

Dale, could you host one of the problem mp3s onto Google Drive or another file sharing site for us to analyse, to confirm it's a widespread issue or just your computer.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi

In addition to the above requests:- what is/are:

  • The source of these audio files?
  • Windows version and build number?
  • Video Easy version number?
  • Can you play the mp3 files with Windows Media Player?

I create the files in REAPER and render them from there.

Windows info:

  • Edition - Windows 10 Home
  • Version - 22H2
  • Installed On - 2021-‎10-‎04
  • OS Build - 19045.3448
  • Experience - Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19044.1000.0

I can use my audio files in other projects - I opened a dummy project and was able to import properly.

Is there an internal setting somewhere in the current project that might have an effect? I don't see anything in the menus.

I don't have Video Easy. I have not needed it so far and my other projects are OK. I have quite a lot of content already in the project and would like to be able to use it until it is completed.

The files play in Media Player.

I installed MEP on another PC and I have the same problem with this particular project. There must be a setting somewhere that prevents the audio files from loading. MP4 files can be imported.

I usually use 48K sampling rate. This was the setting on the files originally.

I don't have Video Easy

But you have posted to a thread about Video Easy, hence the question about which version you have!

It seems you actually have MEP, so which version and edition?

Hi.

I can't replicate this problem and I just loaded 10 and a half hours worth of 44.1kHz 16 bit 320 kb/s files into a project.

That only increased the total amount of ram in use to just over 10GBs from around an already 9.4GBs. No noticeable additional disc space used on the C: drive.

I then placed the files onto four tracks and played them to see if there was excessive disk usage on the project drive, the file drive or the program drive. Hardly any movement on any component and scrolling, fast forwarding and playback all happened correctly.

So I doubt it is a setting causing the problems.

File specs. all files.

The only thing I can think of is if the system is running an older version of Windows and an old version of MEP.

Then it may be that file sizes over 4GBs in size won't load.

Ray.

The only thing I can think of is if the system is running an older version of Windows and an old version of MEP.

Or, at least an old version of MEP. Hence my question to @Dale-Williams asking about the version he has. His earlier post shows he is running Win 10 Home 22H2 so I think we can discount that as a factor, hopefully!

Thanks for the input from everyone.

This particular project is the only one where I can no longer import audio.

Unfortunately I have already created a lot of content that I may have to redo in a new project to get past this issue.

BTW - I have kept up with the current updates. I just did one and thought that might have been the prolem so I re-installed from the original packaging. Same result!

emmrecs wrote on 10/11/2023, 8:17 AM

@Dale-Williams

Unfortunately, you have not actually specified which version of the software you have, sorry!

In an earlier post you mention MEP, which is Movie Edit Pro but that name was discontinued at least two years ago. The most current version of what was formerly known as MEP is Magix Movie Studio 2024, aka MMS 2024. That's why we asked you to specify the version, and edition you have!

I re-installed the program from the CD in the package that I bought many years ago.

I still think there is something goofy in the project.

I opened a new one and could import the audio normally.

Hi

. . . . I re-installed the program from the CD in the package that I bought many years ago. . . . .

You still have not provided the version number of the MEP you have installed.

. . . . I still think there is something goofy in the project. . . .

This sounds like the movie file is corrupt - try the following:

  • Load the 'goofy' project into MEP

  • Select File, Manage project, Export movie file, Magix Movie file (*.mvd) and export the movie.giving it a new name.

  • Restart MEP create a new project

  • Select File, Manage project, Import movie file, Magix Movie file (*.mvd) and load the saved MVD file

  • Save the project with a new name then try importing more audio files.
