access violation/program freeze

Humberto-Vela wrote on 5/25/2021, 5:41 PM

I keep getting a program freeze every time I try to bring up a project -even if resaved to different name. It says error in module "mxhei_x64.dll". Appears like a conflict with something. I also tried uninstalling and installing again. Any ideas on what to try? it is Magix photostory deluxe version 20.0.1.62. thanks.

@Humberto-Vela

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

That error message suggests a problem with a Magix file but I can find no information about what it actually does, sorry!

However, depending on how you carried out the uninstalling and installing again you may actually have made the problem worse! Because the uninstaller does not know about any files, folders or registry entries which are created after the initial installation is completed, e.g., on first or subsequent runs, it does not know to remove them and one of them could well be causing the problem!

So, our advice is always: find, download and install the free Revo Uninstaller. Run it and allow it to run the default uninstall of PS. Then allow Revo to run its Advanced scan. This will produce a screen showing everything it has found that it thinks is part of the program buw which the default uninstaller "missed". Check carefully everything it lists, especially if you have other Magix programs installed. (You can deselect any item on its list if you are not sure whether it should be removed or not. As a general rule, it is normally safe to allow it to remove what it lists.)

Then reboot your computer and reinstall and register PS.

Hopefully, the problem will now be resolved, but if not, please post back with full details of your computer (hardware, software etc.). This post will show you the level of detail which would be invaluable to us.

@Humberto-Vela

Hi

Is this a Steam version of Photostory - if so then you need to take this up with Steam support.

@Daneane71

I have hidden your post to this thread because, a) this is the Photostory forum and your question refers to MEP, and b) you have already posted to the MEP area and have received a number of replies.
