Access Violation Error on VIDEO PRO14

Okay, regarding the RESI streaming files, I have to back up. I have reviewed all my weekly production for the past year plus, and it turns out that I have consistently used Bandicut to trim clips from RESI before bringing the clips into VPX! So, here's my verdict on that part:

- VLC Player and Bandicut can deal with RESI streaming clips just fine.

- However, Windows File Explorer and Magix VPX have some issue. (File Explorer doesn't show the length. VPX gives the "Error 0x1009: end of file reached" EVERY time. I've now tested both of my PCs, on the last 2 versions of VPX 14 (....159 and .169), with dozens of attempts. Same result every time. They also don't show as proper video tracks within the VPX browser.

- My faithful consistent workaround is simply to trim RESI files with Bandicut. This works with VPX 100% of the time, with no issues. I'm okay with the workaround.

If anyone wants to test/validate/confirm THIS aspect of my PC/VPX problems, here is a link to 2 approx. 1-minute files. One is direct from Resi and should give you the same error. The other is trimmed a bit shorter from Bandicut and imports just fine.

Now regarding the crashlog and Access_Violation, I am NOT having that on my office PC on the 2nd to latest version (... .159). I will report back tomorrow from my home PC from the latest version (... .169)

@Craigster

On the RESI file I got a "An unknown error has occurred" message from MMS 2023.

I ran the RESI file through AVIDemux Copy Copy (ie a smart copy) and now it imports to MMS OK.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi Craig

Like @AAProds I to get the error on import of the RESI file, looking at the MediaInfo of the Resi file it appears to be a standard h.264/AAC encoded file, the only 'issue' with it is the video bitrate is low for a 1920 x 1080 30 fps video, though this is acceptable for MMS as seen in the Bandicut file..

Using other analysis tools there is something about the video file that causes DirectShow rendering to fail, the 'End of file' message would suggest the Resi video file is a looped video file that once started playing will loop continuously - is this what Resi is doing?

Conversion through Handbrake also loads into MMs OK.

Thank you, both.

I'll pass this info along to RESI. It might be helpful to them or to others.

Resi Support has confirmed all we have said as: known issues.

They recommend Handbrake. I have it, but Bandicut does what I need in mere seconds.

So, consider that error ("Error 0x1009: end of file reached") a closed issue for me.

At Magix urging, I fully uninstalled all prior versions of VPX (I had 8 accumulated on my home machine). And do a clean install of just the latest. And I updated to ...169 (the latest).

The prior "Access Violation" errors and problems loading files are NOT re-ocurring.

Hopefully I'm good to go!
