This song is a tribute to Paul Simon, one of my favorite singers. I tried to give it Paul's sound as in the 80's.
If Simon only knew
Dear Mr. Simon, if you only knew how much your songs consoled me with boredom.
When I was at school, my mind escaped and taught me freedom.
Only you and Art could capture my attention, sweet stray attention, oh yeah.
Dear Mr. Simon, may I call you Paul ?
Your shadow walked aside me for so long,
And the only living boy in New York never never came back home.
He's here with me and your Kodachrome, your dear Kodachrome, oh yeah.
It was 10 in the morning, and my head was really reeling,
As a pupil was stumped at the blackboard.
The teacher would document his record,
And pinch his ear, as the usual reward.
(What a bad dream, what a terrible scene)
Next to me, Will keeps on drawing,
He's got talent, maths is not for him.
But my sinuses are blocked, my head is really really hot.
My words go off at a tangent. Listening to Paul becomes urgent.
Oh dear Paul, let your music fix my soul.
Let your music fix my soul, let your music fix my soul.
If you only knew, dear Paul (X2)
Much later in the evening, I had to face a difficult meeting
And leave Cecilia for good on her own.
I was afraid I could be missing
All the words she would have liked hearing
Oh please tell me again about your fifty ways.
Dear Mr Simon,
You'll never know how much you meant to me,
When I played your songs at night repeatedly,
Long before they put them on CD, oh yeah, oh yeah....
