Hi Ray,

I'm glad to see that you've been making headway with Boris BCC Title Studio. I haven't had much time to play around with it yet. I did get a message with some templates that I was out of memory. I decided to start following the tutorial using the standalone version. I haven't gotten very far yet.

Sounds like it's somewhat like NB Titler Pro which seems to be limited in which graphics it works with. My computer likely would not run it, but at least Boris BCC works.

For anyone else, this FREE offers expires tomorrow.

That's odd, or good, I didn't get any warnings, my system just tripped over.

There appear to be two basic editors within Borris FX. The first is very useful and saves time finding which effect you want to start with. The second editor allows parts within the effect to be key framed so, size, position, start and end points to each part etc. seem completely adjustable as well as camera angle, lighting, texture, font selection. The list is probably as long as things I can think to alter. I could apparently insert my own logos as well. I'll be honest and say I'm not one for manuals and I'm just playing with it. Most of it is very similar to manipulating stills and since I have been getting more familiar with key frame editing I'm finding combining the two not so difficult.

Once all that is sorted it's easy to move the graphics around and blend into the clip using the two boxes in the bottom of the effects box.

I've probably spent around six hours playing with it so far. I know it's capable of doing the Title Template 'Movie Titles' 'The shining' from the store, and I would bet that is how it was made, but haven't got that far yet. Maybe sometime this week if my graphics capabilities are up to it.

Hi John.

No I haven't loaded them yet. I haven't even got around to reloading Cubase yet. I will probably get around to trying something at a later date.

Have you played with Borris FX yet?

I've learnt how to reduce the load on my PC and now understand about the transparency layers a bit more and it's key editor which is very comprehensive. I wish I could get the background to show in the Borris editor against the key editor so I could work out the speed of movement and transitions.

As I said, just playing around at present. I'm not in the market for additional consumables at present with no income for the past six weeks and I may be one of the last people allowed back to work under the present lockdown arrangements here. That may be some time yet.

Hence all my unusual amount of time here 😇.

I have added Borris to an existing experiment. The Borris bit comes in at around 18 seconds. Getting used to positioning and blending so far.

Hi John.

I got those with my initial downloads.

Not overenthusiastic about the Background Ambiances Pack, or the Impact SFX Pack. The others were OK, but not sure I'd use any of them. I have my own recorded sound effects I've done over the past twenty odd years. First recording to portable minidisc and later to a digital recorder. The packs are noise free and high quality, but some are a bit repetitive with no real gain to be made between takes. If you don't have any, then the last two are worth having in my opinion. Expect some spam email after.

Hi Guys.

I think I may have finally got to the bottom of the instance of Magix MQT Reader and its initialization.

First, if you open up a new project and do not use the BCC Title Studio within MEP you will not see the Magix MQT Reader come up in Task Master in the main groupings of sub programs running within MEP.

Once you have opened an instance of BCC Title Studio, Magix MQT Reader comes up in the sub programs running within the MEP instances but does not show up further down the list again nearer any other background instances loaded onto your machine. This instance of Magix MQT Reader will then shut down when MEP is shut down.

This is where it starts to get tricky and I may be wrong but this is what I'm finding.

When I first tripped Magix MQT Reader into having an instance of it remaining running after I had shut down MEP I think I tried to add BCC Title Studio to another clip within the project. That I think caused MEP to freeze and eventually I got the memory access violation box appear.

So it wasn't down to my graphics card not being powerful enough either. In fact after an initial try of getting BCC to add an effect to the second clip a second time and before the program fell over, may be what triggered Magix MQT Reader to open a second and eventually a third instance of it running separately outside of the use of MEP and brought up the 'phantom sliders' on the Windows volume mixer.

But this is where other things got trickier and made me a bit mad and worried.

At this point I had no idea about Magix MQT Reader or that it was running in the background. What I did suddenly find was that I could not copy and paste or import from my cameras, any video files at all. either from drive to drive or importing straight from camera.

So it would seem to be a form of digital rights management. Is this because BCC Title Studio was a giveaway and as such a limited all be it lifetime version or is this how the full program would behave?

I will do further experiments to see if this is the case or not. I'm still not 100% sure yet but if any of you (That downloaded and are using this package) suddenly find you can not import or copy video files across disks, check Task Manager for instances of Magix MQT Reader running and close them down. If the problem persists its worth checking the Windows volume mixer to see if any Phantom Volume Sliders are showing. They shut down when there is no instance of Magix MQT Reader running in the background.

On the plus side, I can try a higher resolution project now using the free version of BCC Title studio.

[Edit]

I should have added that any video clip that has BCC Title Studio added to it seems to be tagged with MQT and can not be imported into another project that already has an instance of BCC Title Studio running. Nor can any exported rendered file thereafter be copied into a project although you can import only and use if you don't try to copy the file into the project. This allows more than one instance of the titling to be used within the same project but becomes annoyingly long winded to do so, but I guess, that's the point.

Ray.

Hi Ray

MQT Reader is a video import plugin and has been around since MEP 2015, it supports the following formats: MOV, QT, DV, RAW, MMV and MP4.

This was introduced with MEP 2015 so it has been around for a while.

From what you have further said it would IMO indicate what I said previously - MEP is baulking at something BCC is doing ie being given or returning from/to MEP.

There is only one other mention I can about MQT Reader and that it is in the German forum and relates to an audio issue.

Do the BCC titles have any audio associated with them?

Hi John.

Do you think that is the part of MEP that checks how many versions of MEP are installed and registered?

I've never seen its head pop up just using MEP.

The video clips that the BCC titles files are attached to do have audio but as far as I'm aware BCC doesn't appear to have any audio association with them, but I could be wrong as there is another plug-in within the suite Called Continuum Particle Illusion which may well have. Whether they are linked in some way I don't at this point know.

I just tried to open Continuum Particle Illusion to try to see if it was linked in some way but it isn't responding at present. It did last night. Looked cool but no idea how it would be used. Not even sure if it is an additional demo or part of the Borris FX program suite.

Checked Task Manager. It says the Continuum Particle Illusion program is disabled. Apart from shutting down Magix QMT Reader after using MEP I have done no disabling so a bit of a mystery.

Will shut down my pc later and reboot to see if it works again.

For now, I have to go out.

Boris are Wondertouch's parent company.

Hi John.

Particle Illusion must have been installed at the same time as I installed Borris FX. I wasn't even aware of its existence until I looked to see where the stand-alone version of Borris was last night. I had a brief look and loaded the asteroids effect and made them move around. After that I just shut down the program and went to bed.

Still not sure if it was a demo or not. Wasn't asked for a registration on startup. The email said choose 'show licenced plugins only' if you do not want to see all the unlicensed plugins. I may have chosen otherwise so will check later.

Hi Ray,

It seems that the entire Boris Continuum was installed or just Title Pro and Particle Illusion, which is what I see in the Windows menu for the stand-alone. I received an email from Boris advising me that my trial is almost over. I certainly hope that this is for plugins other than Title Pro.

I noticed that on my desktop, I added only Title Pro and that is all that shows up in the Effects Media Pool, but on my laptop, I have a whole slew of BCC stuff.

High John.

I've not received any emails from Borris. My internet at present though is intermittent. Virgin Media has had some large problems over the last week or so. I only seem to have the Two programs installed as far as I can see. Just the Particle Illusion part seems to have ceased to work. I will see if I get an email in the morning. I have been inundated with spam though. Mainly from the subsidiary additional offers. That's no problem as I've set them up to go straight into the spam folder.

Hi John.

Just a quick thank you for pointing out this offer. It turns out the program is very flexible and useful. It took a while to work out as I'm typically bad at looking at manuals or tutorials, etc 😉 but I've worked my way around using the timelines and adding textures, extrusions, additional text, movement, and adding images as well as the blending techniques and saving individual projects for later recall.

It has become very useful. Once I have got used to it more I may even look at some of the other Borris range.

Thank you.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

Glad you've found it useful. I haven't had or taken the time to go much further. I've been spending more time with BluffTitler.

Yesterday, I got around to gathering up the audio files that came with the package and putting them in more accessible folders with a link in VPX. I have links to Soundpools and other audio. Now I have to review them to see what might be useful. I noticed some stingers that could be useful for certain transitions.

I tried out the ERA4 VoiceLeveler only once, wasn't satisfied but I was in a hurry so I removed it. I need to test it properly with voice recordings for narration.

Hi John.

I found the nature recordings had too much unwanted background noise and the whooshes a bit too synthy but then I already have a large selection of sfx and have to date found no use for them outside of using them in music production. The one thing I will say about the Borris Title FX is it is very Intel GPU hungry while rendering but then seems to place the finished render into ram (six to eight GB per Title) but then speeds along. Possibly faster ram may speed that process up but the Intel GPU gets pushed to between 67-100% of usage while rendering the effect to a clip.
