Maybe try updating the Vdist runtimes

@Gwyndy

Hi

Error code -1603 is a Windows error and usually means your computer account does not have the correct run permissions, or the folder being accessed does not have the correct permissions to access it, is missing or being blocked by your Antivirus.

Try disabling your Antivirus program before running the installer.

Thanks, but I couldn't see how to install the version that Movie Edit requires.

Thanks John. I tried disabling the antivirus and also tried running the setup file as administrator. No luck! The first error message that I see is in the screenshot below. As I said in my first post, it seems that the package is looking for the C++ installation files in the wrong place. If I accept the error and let the installation complete I then get a final message that the installation did not complete correctly. I have forwarded the log file to Magix.

@Gwyndy

Hi

In that case try downloading and installing linked to by @Ancien utilisateur , then run the program installer again, once they are installed the installer should bypass it own install and continue to completion.

Hi John,
Promidi's suggestion doesn't work for me. I downloaded the installation file but as soon as I run it I get the same error message that I shared in my last post - i.e. can't find the installation package vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi. There is a lot of web chatter about this but, so far, none of the suggested fixes has worked.

johnebaker Posté à 29/09/2021 19:06

@Gwyndy

Hi

. . . .  I downloaded the installation file but as soon as I run it I get the same error message that I shared in my last post  . . . .

That suggest there is an issue with the Windows installation, try the following:

  1. Check the Windows installation does not have any issues - run steps 3 - 11 in this tutorial.

  2. Run this Microsoft installation troubleshooter to check for install issues - run it 2 x first for Movie Edit Pro and then for the Visual C++.

Then try installing Visual C++ runtimes and MEP again.

If that does not work, which version of Windows are you trying to install MEP on and which Antivirus program are you using?

Problem solved John.
After much web searching I found this article -

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/visual-c-2015-2019-x64-failure-to-install/9eab23a5-df46-4b97-9be8-4e7dd5cd8d61
It seems that the culprit was the 2015 version of Microsoft Visual C++. Downloading and running this file - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53587 - and using the uninstall option got rid of the offending files and the Magix installation then worked fine.
Many thanks for your help.

I spoke too soon!

All seemed to be working OK after resolving the installation issue but then MEP crashed for no apparent reason. I was then stuck in an endless loop of submit crash report / close program / restart / error message / etc, etc. On several occasions I have had to use task manager to close MEP as it had completely frozen.
I have tried a full uninstall using Revo and I have checked 'Program files' and 'Program data' folders and deleted some remnants that Revo hadn't flagged. I have then re-installed MEP but still have the same problem.
I can't see any logic to the crashes as they do not seem to be related to any particular set of actions.

I am slowly tearing out what little hair I have left. Any ideas would be most welcome.

CubeAce Posté à 01/10/2021 03:06

@Gwyndy

A lot of crashes happen if MEP selects a GPU it either can't use because it has the wrong architecture or the drivers may not be up to date. In the program settings before you load any project try selecting all the following settings to CPU. Import, Processing, Export.

If the program works without crashing but is slow to respond then there is a hardware problem and we will need the complete specs of your computer to track it down.

Ray.

Thanks for the comment. I may have one last try at a clean installation and see what happens.
I did try MEP a while ago but found it very slow. Since then I have had a SSD installed on my laptop so speed of response for 'bulky' software isn't generally a problem any longer.
I'll let you know what happens.

Hi.

While SSDs are faster they have little impact on the performance of the program if the processor or GPUs are not fast enough or cannot fully implement Direct X11.1. All my projects reside on SATA hard drives. Only the program drive is MVMe and even then it barely ticks over. CPU use is often below 5% except when using some OFX based effects.

Tried a fresh installation - no success!

@CubeAce I did, as you suggested, check the program settings and have subsequently tried all options for import, processing, and export.

Every time that I open the program I see the crash log warning. If I dismiss this then I get the second pop-up. (Images below.) If I close all the warning dialogues then the program seems to function normally.
I think that I have to just give up with this and accept that there is some basic incompatibility between the software and my hardware. A great shame!

I had one last try - clean download and clean installation. Same result! Next step, sadly, will be a refund request.
Thank you all for your help.
