I have opened this thread to try to follow old and new bugs for VPX14. I have been updating the old bug list and I will need some help vetting some of the older bugs raised by others. Note that I have not raised a ticket yet for Bug 50. I would like some feedback first.

Here are some of the newer ones:

48. XAR object with VPX disappears – (this is new and adds to Bug 26)The interface between VPX and Xara has been broken in different ways for several years now. New in VPX13 and Xara Designer Pro X version 19 are two error messages upon exiting Xara to return to VPX13. The XAR object appears on the timeline in VPX13 correctly, however, the XAR object becomes blank after saving the project then reopening the project. This is an essential feature of the two products and it would be nice if Magix would fix this, once and for all. Make sure that multiple XAR objects in the same project do not get emptied.

49. VPX-MEP Text Shadow Problem - In Magix Video Pro X13 (confirmed in VPX14) and Movie Edit Pro 2022 there are problems with using the Blur command on the Shadow in the Text Editor. Applying a blur to the shadow moves the text and creates at hard edge at the extremities. The text should not move and there should be a smooth blur at the edges as happened in VPX12 and MEP2021.

50. Camera-Zoom Size/Position/Rotation (SPR) - Using Camera/Zoom Shot creates the old Image size/position effect in the keyframe area. To modify the parameters, we used to be able to use the Size/Position effect.

Now, switching to Size/Position/Rotation, you need to apply the effect and it creates a second effect in the keyframe area. There is no access to modify the keyframes of the Camera/Zoom Shot effect.

This can make some interesting effects, but is this intentional or an oversight?

I would like some feedback on this one as to what others think should be done. I think that Magix forgot to use the new SPR for Camera/Zoom.

51. Transitions using 3rd Party Transitions - the second clip no longer shows up in the third party transitions interface. Tested by me with Pixelan SpiceMaster, proDAD Adorage, and by Jeff with Vitascene.

52. Section problems not retaining setting upon reopening - not completed yet, but this bug from VPX13/MEP2022 is still in VPX14. There are several problems.

a. Clicking on the checkmark for Fullscreen appears to do nothing the first time, so one does not know whether or not this works.

b. Using Section creates two main entries in the keyframe area, Section and the old Size/Position effect instead of the new SPR. Is this intentional?

c. Creating a Section

then navigating to another effect, like SPR and without doing anything returning to Section shows a different image under Preview - Free proportions has been changed to Like Movie.

Click on Edit and the image and selection box are back to the start as shown below. Click on Preview and the image above is still shown. This did not happen prior to VPX13/MEP2022.

d. Create the Section, go to SPR, Apply effect, and move the image a bit. Return to Section, and now there is a mess. The effects have to be redone.

Returning to Section is to be avoided.

Comments on this problem? Did I get it right or is there more (or less)?

I will make the updated pdf available as soon as I have finished checking old bugs.

Hi John EB,

Bug 54 - Attach to picture position. Something was done as we no longer get anything in the keyframe area and your trick to change the anchor point does not work. I can't get this effect to follow the action, not even close. Is it still broken?

Does the following adequately describe the problem with Shot Match in VPX?

Bug 56 - Shot Match – does not work correctly. It gives a black and white image (completely unsaturated. See this message from John E. Baker. Underwater footage (magix.info)

The description fits the example I gave, depending on the reference frame selected you get varying degrees of de-saturation.

Patch 20.0.3.175 was released today:
Fixed: Sporadic crash when drawing thumbnails in the Timeline
Fixed: Sporadic crash when using the horizontal mouse wheel
Fixed: Sporadic crash on exit while still creating thumbnails in the MediaPool
Fixed: Error when applying alpha masks
Fixed: Sporadic crash during import on AMD graphics cards
Fixed: Sporadic crash when updating to a new version number
Fixed: Sporadic crash on older graphics cards without full DirectX12 support
Fixed: Crash when reading video data on older graphics cards when import and rendering were configured to use different graphics cards

Hopefully, this will fix many of the crashes that users have been experiencing. Unfortunately, none of the bugs mentioned here have been fixed.

I see that there is also a patch for Movie Studio which is probably the same. I wasn't able to see the details.

Here is a link to the updated bug list, version 20. The ones in cyan are those that I am not sure if they have been resolved or not. Even some of the others may have been resolved.

Some bugs may be missing.

No 48 on the list.

Have you seen when that copy of Xara was made?

It's possible it won't work fully with the latest graphics drivers and the new versions of Xara seem to be subscription only.

The image is showing Xara 3D Maker not Xara Designer Pro X version 19 as mentioned in issue no 48.

Tested the following bug list items:

4. Hitfilm KF values - fixed

10. Cannot test

11. BD disc bitrate slider - fixed

14. I think this is by design, the logic is when you set a range or undo an edit with a range selected is that you are going to take an action involving the range eg playback - see clip below

16. Not fixed - the dropdown being superceded by the 'recent list' has left this as a hang over from previous style recent list should be changed to a text box not a list box.

Further tests ongoing.

Hi Ray,

3D Maker, even though it says Magix on it, was made by Xara. It has been part of the VPX/MEP/MMS installation for many years. You can see this under:

C:\Program Files\MAGIX\Video Pro X14\3d_maker_embeded

with the filename X3d.exe.

It still works fine. I would assume that Magix would have to come up with a patch or an updated version if it stopped working properly.

As John EB pointed out, it is not Xara Designer Pro X or Xara Photo & Graphics Designer, completely different programs. You can purchase 3D Maker on the Magix.com site if you want the SAL version or to be able to use it with MMS. The version that you have with VPX opens fully, but cannot be used as a Standalone.

Xara also has what they call "XARA+" which is a cloud-based subscription. It is available on Xara.com, not on Magix.com and has nothing to do with Magix.

On Magix.com, you can purchase the stand-alone product. It is not a subscription but still has the Update Service. There is an element of subscription, but that is only for access to the on-line content catalogue and for Xara online M-Hosting which gives you a one-year payment for a web site and some cloud hosting and storage - actually with Magix as far as I understand.

Sorry for the confusion. I have never used the shop. Hadn't seen it.

I did visit the Xara website and could only find subscription offerings of any of their products.

Is the Xara Designer Pro X version 19 the current version? I'm still wondering when they changed the way Direct X changed how 2D and 3D graphics is now handled whether older copies of some programs would become less compliant.

Did you include that opening the mixer seems to turn off the limiter in the master channel in VPX 14? I do not know if that happens in MMS 2023.

Here is the text:

59. Mixer Master Strip FX and Mastering Turn Off: In the Mixer, open Mastering and turn on the Limiter (or anything else), make sure that the main Mastering Suite button is turned on, close it. It should still show as on. Click on FX in the Master strip and Mastering will turn off – first bug.

Turn on something, like the compressor and close the effect window. Now click on Mastering and FX will turn off (second bug).

Turn on the Limiter (or anything else), make sure that the main Mastering Suite button is turned on, close it. It should still show as on. Reopen Mastering and whatever had been on is now off (third bug).

Go back to Mastering and turn on the Limiter (or anything else). Save the project, exit, reopen, open the Mixer. The Mastering button is turned on. Select it and whatever had been on is now off (fourth bug).

Not yet, I do not normally use Mastering effects, so did not see an issue with it until Ray mentioned it above, also occurs with MMS 2023.

Finished going through the bug list:-

21 - Blurry transition - not fixed for the Trimmers - can only change transition length by right click option.

23 - Appears to be partially resolved - I am getting the the title going to the first empty space on track 3, at the cursor which is in a gap before objects, if there is sufficient space before or at the end of the last object on track 3

26 - Cannot test - does not seem to like the XPD I have

27 - Cannot test only have TP7 and am having issues with it.

28 - Thru black transition - not fixed - also occurs whatever the colour gone through is.

38 - Moving cut point - not fixed

39 - Object trimmer pt 2 has weird issues the first Alt + arrow click moves 4 frames in either direction, then jumps of 5 frames at a time with subsequent click.

40 - Chromakey issue - if you mean the colour hue range that actually works ie does not produce the grey mask, I think this may be by design as discussed in several topics in the forum.

42 - Effects tab width - not fixed

43 - Issue is specific to VPX 12, VPX 14 works, don't have VPX 12 to test.

47 - Import range to Project folder - not fixed

48 - Not tested as for 26

54 - Attach to picture position - fixed

56 - Shot match - fixed

57 - Cannot test do not have SFACL 4

58 - Edit image eternally does not refresh - the A shortcut was my custom short cut for emptying the caches - needs removing from the list.
