Hello Fellow Music Enthusiasts:

My good online friend, Ballabar, requested that I arrange a version of one of America's Pop classic hits of 1961, "Town Without Pity" by Gene Pitney.

"Town Without Pity" was Gene Pitney's first hit. Its success was partly due to it being from the movie of the same name, with the star appeal of Kirk Douglas attracting a lot of attention. The song won the very first Golden Globe award for best original song, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. This led to Pitney becoming the first pop singer to perform at the Oscars in 1962.

So, here it is...  Hope you enjoy the listen...

Lyrics By, Gene Pitney

When you're young and so in love as we
And bewildered by the world we see
Why do people hurt us so
Only those in love would know
What a town without pity can do

If we stop to gaze upon a star
People talk about how bad we are
Ours is not an easy age
We're like tigers in a cage
What a town without pity can do

The young have problems, many problems
We need an understanding heart
Why don't they help us, try and help us
Before this clay and granite planet falls apart

Take these eager lips and hold me fast
I'm afraid this kind of joy can't last
How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do

How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do

No, it isn't very pretty what a town without pity... Can Do...

Hey Griff.

I like this song. I didn't realize that I knew it until I played your arrangement and now it will be stuck in my head for the rest of the night! I have to say, Griff.  I mean I really HAVE to say that I was waiting for the chord at the end.  And I tried to find it on my keyboard. Maybe a C6/9 with flatted 5th? (like a D triad over a C7 chord?) Would  that work?

That was not an easy song to play either'  Lots of chromatics and accidentals.  That darn Ballabar better show up to listen to our songs, don't you think?  He still hasn't listened to mine. Oh well

Nice job as always.
Trish

Hi Griff:

A bit different from what you usually do, that's no doubt about it, i didn't knew this song but yes she is very cinematic, and you really capture that feeling... also the sound you get from those instruments, very sixties gives a nice touch to the song.

If i close my eyes, i can see myself in the movie instead of  Kirk Douglas and kissing the main actress, like a real movie star!!!!

Great Job as always!

All the best to you

Emanuel

Well played my friend.

The times were simpler then but as Trish pointed out, this was not your basic 3 chord romp. Very well played, brought me back to a few things I used to listen to growing up.

Cheers,

Stu

I know nothing about music. Only listened .. Using technology also makes possible for me to be able to make music.

I am also into photography amateur.

I'm not here for stars score but coment with advice for improvement of my music.

at my coment on music of others, I remain honest. this must be mutual .

I give my voice just as public and not as someone who knows something from music.

I'm open to all criticism. I want to learn something

Hello Griff, a wonderful song that you (as always) did very well presented.

I'm a little sad that I only in the coming months
little time for music will have. My job calls my attention.

Thank you to you and all friends here in the Com. for the great music and the many suggestions.

Music has always been part of my life. I started making music as a hobby for a couple of years ago. I work in an aluminum production plant, hard work but I'm not complaining.

Cheers Music friends :-)

I dig this version Griff....Gene Pitney had a great voice and had many hits back then, and you did this song justice.

I am dating myself, but I know, I was there....haha.
