Album: My Favorite Things

Season's Greetings To One And All!

"My Favorite Things" is a popular show tune, originally from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, "The Sound of Music".

Trish Marshall and I decided to collaborate on this song for several reasons.  First, the chord and melody are relatively simple to do when two diverse piano styles are incorporated.  Second, we felt that with my mainly Jazz background and Trish's Classical and Popular music backgrounds, this particular song would be best suited for our first (hopefully one of many) joint sessions.  Third, the song is fairly well-known, and because of the Christmas season, is timely.

We decided not to use bass or drums with this arrangement...

Hopefully, those who listen will find our partnership enjoyable.

Trish Marshall: Piano (Melody)
NYC Griff: Piano (Chords), Flute, Oboe, Strings

Lyrics: Oscar Hammerstein II

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles

Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses, with blue satin sashes
Snow flakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes

Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad

I simply remember my favorite things
Like silver white winters that melt into springs

And then I don't feel so bad...

that collaboration, all-American; great !!!!!!!
I would say that you can clearly hear the musical diversity of style among you, but you have managed to blend it all with great quality and musical knowledge.
who knows how to make music and knows it well as tea and Trish, has some problems to adapt.
I drei that the result is definitely upscale.
song musically very full-bodied and complex, so great to you both
I take this opportunity to wish you all a great wishes for happy holidays

Hi! nycgriff / NYC Griff, Trish Marshall. Gut gemacht. "Merry X-Mas"

Hi musician,
really impressive presentation of two thoroughbred musicians ! Tonal and technically this is a correct house number !
Your strong understanding of chord offset is always very impressive to me ! This goes far beyond the classic textbook Gentle music also .
I wish you and Trish a beautiful peaceful Christmas !

Hi Griffffff

First let me say that it was indeed a pleasure to work with an accomplished musician such as yourself.

As I said before, your chord changes where you substituted the maj7  chords in the second round really added a neat alternative to the minor chords ordinarily used in most of the other arrangements I have heard.  They didn't affect the melody, just added some pizzazzzzz ! This was a learning experience for me as well as a real pleasure to work with you in our first (but not last) musical endeavor.

The hardest part was picking a song that would suit both of our styles and you did a fine job, my good friend.

If we don't talk before the 25th, I sincerely hope that you and your family of musicians have a great Christmas and make some beautiful music together and how the heck did it get to be almost 2015 already?????????? Boggles my mind!

Thanks so much

Trish

Hi to you both:

Well finishing this year, hearing such an amazing tune like this one, in this comunnitty, is an hell of a way to finish it... like we say in my country (i don't know if it is an international expression) "closing the year with a golden key".

Don't have much more to say about it that haven't already been said, except maybe that is for me a previlege to hear your music, and to be a part of your "familly in this comunitty"... you both are defenetelly some of my favourite things!

Merry Christmas to you both

Hi Folks:

Just want to say that it was more than a terrific experience working with Trish Marshall.  She embodies the very highest attributes of musicianship, professionalism and personality that made our partnership fun, as well as satisfying.  Personally, I consider it a real privilege to have been able to participate with her in this effort.  Hopefully, we will do something else in the near future.  I will absolutely leap at the opportunity in a heart beat.

Thanks to those who have listened and commented.

All the best to each and everyone of you guys!

Griff
