"London After Midnight" is considered one of the most popular lost films in cinema history. It was made in 1926 and starred Lon Chaney as a police detective who wore hideous disguises in order to track down various criminals and murderers. In 1965 the last known prints of the film were destroyed in a warehouse fire. To this day no other prints have been found. We at funeral breakfast have incorporated the title of the movie into this song about Jack the Ripper in an effort to give you all a dark little ditty to keep you awake at night. Enjoy!
Lyrics, vocals, and arrangement by Ian Michalski.
LYRICS
London after midnight
Kings and queens have gone to bed
Gentleman comes strolling through the alleys of the dead
He's a respectable man
Strictly dapper, but for blood on his hands
Brilliantly dressed
Pursuing pastimes which the devil suggests
The demon claims another!
and he's vanished from the scene
and not a living person could identify the fiend
In my study after midnight
I am frightening myself
pouring over old cold cases
sure to shake my mental health
He's haunting my brain
This ancient murderer with top hat and cane
Feeling unwell
as I'm interpreting his letters from hell
The demon claims another!
and he's vanished from the scene
and not a living person could identify the fiend....
