Killing Me Softly With His Song

I have loved this song ever since Roberta Flack first sang it.

I heard he sang a good song,
I heard he had a style,
and so I came to see him and listen for a while.
And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes.
Strumming my pain with his fingers,
singing my life with his words,
killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

I felt all flushed with fever embarrassed by the crowd.
I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud.
I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on.
Strumming my pain with his fingers,
singing my life with his words,
killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair.
And then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there.
And he just kept on singing, singing clear and strong.
Strumming my pain with his fingers,
singing my life with his words,
killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

Woho, la la la la la la, woho, laha, la.
Strumming my pain with his fingers,
singing my life with his words,
killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me.
He was strumming my pain,
He was singing my life,
killing me softly with his song,
killing me softly with his song,
telling my whole life with his words,
killing me softly with his song.

Hey Trish, this song has been beautifully interpreted by you, with a slightly jazzy touch ... sounds almost too easy without this severity of the originals ... that is one of them ... I think it's nice and I thank you for this concert tonight. many greetings Andi

Hi Trish:

Love the guitar interspersion with those melodious piano chords.  Plus, (in case folks are not hearing) the obvious 'Spanish' (moreover, 'Flamenco') flavor of this piece.  Also, the cadence is (I'm making this word up) "Temporific"!

If I were a diabetic, I would be in a coma.  A treasured rendition (for sure) of this oft-recorded beauty.

Remember, "Ham-Fisted" vs "Delicacy".  A veritable "Beauty and the Beast" contrast.  I wholeheartedly embrace the contrast.

You are the best, "Piano Lady"!

This is probably one of the most covered songs ever, isn`t it? I heard so many versions of it and each was fine! Your version is just one of them, but I cant remember another version, that was that smooth! I LIKE IT!

Hi Trish,

Not to be outdone by my friend Griff, I would say that this song was phantasmagoric! Seriously, a beautiful intrpretation of this classic song. Brings back lots of memories but your slightly jazz/latin inflection was a pleasant change.

Thanks for bringing one of my favorites to the table.

Cheers,

Stuart

Meine musikalische Biographie:

Mit 16 meinen ersten E-Bass gekauft. Bei der Amateur-Rockband Band „Empire“ eingestiegen. (Stil: Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc.)

Come autore Pino continua a scrivere canzoni incontrando nuovi personaggi in particolare: uno a livello internazionale, Carlo Alberto Rossi,

Hi Trish

Killing me softly probably seems to be in the moment ..... have just one interpretation of Juan commented.

Your version I would like to hear, of course, and I must say that I am amazed at how differently one can interpret the same piece.

Your interpretation appeals with its easy Latin humor and like a dream to me.

You're not old enough to remember when Roberta Flack first sang it, are you?   I am!

Your postings have been inspiring me to keep at my piano lessons no matter how hard it seems to get.  Maybe someday...  Nice work.
