Oh Gente da Minha Terra
This is a cover of a Portuguese Fado, originally sung by Mariza.
For those who are not familiar with, Fado is a very unique traditional Portuguese style of music.
Manuel Rodrigues brought me the idea of that song, with him in the classical guitar, and challenged me to do the bass for it, I’ve loved the idea, later on, Carlos Mercier join us making the voice melody with his Amarantina guitar ( a Portuguese guitar from the region of Amarante, in the north of Portugal).
The chorus of this song says something like:
Oh people of my land
Now I’ve understood
This sadness that I bring
It was from you that I received.
This is a portrait of the Portuguese people, and in these darkness times that Europe is going through, specially poor country’s like my own, this cover pretends to be a shout of revolt, a teardrop in our pride as a nation.
The original song can and should be heard in youtube.
Manuel Rodrigues – Classical Guitar
Carlos Mercier – Amarantina Guitar
