Down the Road

This song was originally written by folk singer Mary McCaslin, but my wife and I first fell in love with this song when we heard a live recording of it performed by the iconic Canadian folk singer Stan Rogers. He performed this as the closing song to his last concert in 1983. Tragically, Stan would die five days later on Air Canada Flight 797 when a fire broke out on board the plane. He was 33, with so much left to do, and so many more songs to sing. This cover is for Stan.

vocals, and arrangement by Ian Michalski.

Lyrics

Sun is rising high, burning into the day
I will say goodbye; I'll be going away
Brush away my doubts what tomorrow will hold
Feeling fine for now, going down the road

To a city to sing about the trees and the wind
'Bout the hills in spring and the rivers that bend
The rocky deep pass and the poppies and posies
Running through the grass, up and down the road

(sing along, it's a folk song!)
["do-do-do do-do" vocalize melody]

In the dark they sit, and they holler for more
White smoke in a wisp from here to the door
Their admission they paid for the stories they're told
Of a clear new day; hold me down on the road

So heavy rain at my back, lazy meadows ahead
In my book I keep track of the promises said

For my songs in a town that tomorrow will hold
I'm feelin' fine for now, going down the road

["do-do-do do-do" vocalize melody]

The sun is rising high, burning into the day
So I will say goodbye; I'll be going away
I'll brush away my doubts what tomorrow will hold

I'm feeling fine for now, going down the road

It's a really beautiful interpretation and you two have recorded the music with your heart, so music is always really good, this is a nice melody to wake up to with your morning coffee.
Tragically, we never know when it will end, we only know for sure when it will start.
Take care and have a nice day
Finn

Bonjour ....

A short-lived passage for this singer, but which you bring back to life in a certain way with this very good interpretation, and this beautiful tribute that you bring here ....Β

beautiful performance - ciao da sandro

Sandro Glavina is an italian composer, named L'Uomo e L'Ombra. The choice of the name derives from the title of the album "L'uomo e l'ombra" of the band "Abstract Music Nuova Esistenza", an experimental group founded by Sandro Glavina together with his friends in the mid-70s.

In the period 2009-2022, L'Uomo e L'Ombra has done 84 albums. The compositions of Sandro Glavina are partly influenced by progressive rock. Sandro has developed a personal style with many experimentations and actualizations. He offers music beyond borders by intertwining different styles in crossover with each other. Prog, psychedelia, classical, post-rock, jazz, pop are some of the influences that dissolve in ambient atmospheres, citations of contemporary music and minimalist nuances. Sandro Glavina aka L'Uomo e L'Ombra plays the music using VSTI synthesizers, keyboards and adds some loops. Sandro isn't a professional musician, composes and plays music just for fun, but his works reach a good outcome, pleasant to listen. L'UOMO E L'OMBRA

Hello Ian and Arianna, First I'm really sorry to hear of Stan Roger's fate in 1983. Gosh, he would be 71 if he were still alive, my friends! You know there is irony in these lyrics about him going down the road. His journey would not last long at this point. A wonderful song about a performer on the road, but most of all you both perform this song exquisitely! Your voice, Ian is pure gold, and your acoustic guitar and tambourine really bring out the best in the song! And Arianna coming in a little later in the song on the piano, bass, and organ is a nice slow build in this song that adds weight to the song! It's great the wonderful vocal melodic sections. I'm sorry I didn't get to this lovely song earlier. That's one of the things I liked about ACIDplanet where you'd get a favorite notice when someone uploaded a new song. What amazes me most is how great you both sound together, and I may be biased but I love your own songs the best, Ian and Arianna! This is a lovely folk song superbly performed! Very Much Enjoy! Clay Brian Wilson 10,000 Suns! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ P.S. What a lovely way to honor Stan Rogers in song. Perhaps he's smiling down proud, my friends.
