In July 2011, my dear friend Alix Rice was skateboarding home from work when she was struck and killed by a doctor who was driving drunk. She was 18. This is her story.
Lyrics, vocals, and arrangement by Ian Michalski.
LYRICS
Mr. Bad Medicine was feeling pretty frisky
Drinking at the country club
Rum and whisky
Way past the legal limit
When he got the urge to go drivin
Speedin round through the suburbs
Like a big piece of shit
He can barely see the road
Cause hes totally lit
Dodging lawn gnomes
Street signs
Parked cars
still imbibing
In the very same place at the very same point
Coming home from her shift at the pizza joint
On a skate board came
The local karaoke djs daughter
Mr Medicine then lost control of the car
And he hit the young lass
Who was thrown pretty far
And he just keeps right on going like he never even saw her
Chorus
And the people in the jury said
Said the fury of the law
Couldn’t ever undo what he did
So why should they abuse it
They said he didn’t do wrong
All he did was cruise right along
Rockin out to his radios cover up music
Mr Medicine sits nervous in the court
Just imagining the verdict
The papers will report
Wonderin if its still true
That rich guys get away with murder
Got his story all straight
His defense was clear
Said he thought he hit some dumb dog or a deer
So he just sped right on through and didn’t worry any further
So they told him should probably attend AA
And the judge just shrugged with nothing to say
And the parents of the girl got a few hundred grand
Just to settle
So the whole thing ends with a sweet girl dead
And the parents on pills for the anger in their head
And a murderer free to walk round
With the grin of the devil
Chorus
