Title: Change The World
Artists: Rick Hall/NYCGRIFF
Album: Change The World

Hello Fellow Music Lovers:

"Change the World" is a song written by Tommy Sims, Gordon Kennedy and Wayne Kirkpatrick which was recorded by Eric Clapton with backing vocals by American singer and composer, "Babyface" for the soundtrack of the 1996 film Phenomenon. The song won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year (for the songwriters), as well as Best Male Pop Vocal performance. The song was chosen by the RIAA as one of the Songs of the Century, ranked at #270.

The single peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1996. It also spent 13 weeks at #1 on the adult contemporary chart and remained on that chart for over a year and a half (80 weeks), a feat which was extraordinarily rare at the time.[1] Since then, however, certain songs have remained on the AC chart for extended periods of time, prompting the eventual creation of an Adult Contemporary recurrent chart for songs that have stayed on the chart for many weeks and fallen below a certain threshold.

Although "Change the World" is better known as an unplugged acoustic track, a rare electric performance of the song was featured on Babyface's 1997 live album Babyface MTV Unplugged NYC, with Clapton on co-lead vocals, playing his namesake signature Fender Stratocaster guitar. There was also another electric cover of this track, released the following year, with Nathan East on electric bass.

In the song, the performer expresses his desire to communicate his love to an unnamed woman. This love, he fears, will go unrequited without a drastic change in his life.

Previous to the release of Clapton's hit version, the song was recorded by country superstar Wynonna Judd for her album Revelations, released in February 1996. Judd, however, did not release her version as a single despite the popularity of Clapton's.

Personally, this is one of my favorite Pop songs.  The melody and lyrics (IMHO) are fabulous.

Heard on this cover, in addition to me, is my long-time friend and guitarist, Rick Hall from New York City.  Actually, we first played this tune about 10 years ago when we were part of a four-member band.  I recently decided to enhance the song using MIDI keyboard and Samplitude Pro.  Rick was kind enough to assist me with the bass, guitar and drum elements.

Hope you enjoy this rendition.

Griff

Lyrics:

"Change The World"

If I could reach the stars
Pull one down for you,
Shine it on my heart
So you could see the truth:

That this love inside
Is everything it seems.
But for now I find
It's only in my dreams.

And I can change the world,
I will be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.

If I could be king,
Even for a day,
I'd take you as my queen;
I'd have it no other way.

And our love would rule
This kingdom we had made.
'til then I'd be a fool,
Wishing for the day...

That I can change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

I could change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

Griff.

I LOVE this song.  I have the Eric Clapton CD.  I need to dig it out and listen .  Even though my High Shcool Chorus sang it for graduation one year, I still like it!  That is amazing.

What I like about it is your spin on it.  Pretty basic in the beginning and then you switch up the chords a bit but not too much to make it offensive to those who don't dig dissonance, ya know? The moving bass like is rather cool too.

This goes in my favs.  I always forget to vote but I remembered this time

Trish

Hi Griff:

Well, i can sincerelly say that i almost like more this version than the (only)version i know from Eric Clapton.

You really made an excelent cover, and the bass work is excelent, with a great sound, it was really played by Rick or is a vst?

Also the bluesy guitar seems very real, if it was Rick too well is an hell of a musician.... after all,  to accompany you really have to be!

Amazing work, Griff!

All the best to you,

Emanuel

Hi Griff,

Super job to you and Rick.

I particularly liked the jazz feel your keyboard's infused into the song.

Sounds like Rick is playing a steel string accoustic, nice reflection of the unplugged version of this classic.

Very well done!

Cheers,

Stu

Allright Griff,

you've catch me! I know the version of Mr. Slowhand. But your version is also catchy  Maybe the guitar in the background could be a 'bit louder (sorry - I'm a guitarist). Maybe too short for this great song - but a great perfomance!

Yours - VOX

Simply wonderful interpretation!

I wish there could be found someone to sing this song (not me). But even as an instrumental version it's a great performance.

Bravo Griff!

Hi Griff,

great interpretation of a well-known piece of music! This shows once again what an impressive artist like you can do anything! Great compliment to your musical friend Rick Hall for his authentic guitar game!

Mr. Clapton and create his musical is for me personally in every respect absolute top class!

Griff, unfortunately I'm going to step out of lack of time in the community a little shorter here!

The listen to your songs / feedback can always take a little longer!

I remain you and your music but always faithful!

Big points and greeting Freddy

music always of a high standard, very refined arrangement and quality.
The track reminds me of the notes of a famous song by Eric Clapton, which I can not remember the title.
But I have to tell you that your re-release seems very good
great quality

Hi Griff! Sorry, but lately I come a little on Magix Community...so I delay..

Thanks for have given us this jigsaw of music.

I listened to so many different covers of this track, so that I cannot know the original one (I really wanna find it).

This production and execution is really good, delicate and with balance in the sounds.

All the best!  ;)
