And the answer is the same -- key frame animation -- if you want to control everything yourself. As an alaternative, you might have a look at some of the 'Collage' effects which cant do something similar.

You were on the right track but you need to stack the clips on top of each other with the one you want to zoom being the last.

I've raised this issue this before. The very first post in this thread says just the following, nothing else:

Which obviously doesn't make immediate sense to someone like me reading it for the first time!
